That's why I love Great Western Trail so much. The actions are easy. Take a bandit, discard a pair, move your train, hire a worker, deliver cows, etc - none of them are difficult to explain at all. But combining them into a victorious amount of VPs, well, it's difficult to do, and there are a ton of ways to do it. Probably doesn't fit the 15 min. explanation though.
That’s why I love abstract games. In a period for the last few years where heavier and heavier games have become the norm for my group, games like Uwe’s Nova Luna have still stayed close at hand.

I love how teachable light abstract games can be but when well done they can have a massive decision space and a lot of initial opacity that make them incredibly replayable and incredibly strategic

Any CIVILIZATIONS fans here? We are taking this out for a playthru tomorrow... GMT's take on the CIV theme. This is meant to be on the lighter side of games (not as heavy as Clash of Cultures etc).

The other half played this at GenCon last year. He really enjoyed it and thought it was prett good. It has a lot of buzz because it’s the spiritual successor to Dwellings of Everdale (something like that).

At GenCon played designers other new game Emprie’s End and that was a ton of fun deciding when you had the let your section die versus saving it. I chose poorly compared to everyone else.

With all the noises from the OSCARS, if you want to try your hands at making movies.. this is one board game to check out! The art is illustrated by the designer himself (Keen Bean Studio) and has a distinctive look.

Food Chain Magnate is among my favorite games ever. I own three others (Antiquity, Indonesia. Great Zimbabwe) but have yet to play any of them lol
Looking forward to checking out Horseless Carriage though!

Food Chain Magnate is their most successful game... into the 10th print run!

I still remember fondly their launch back in 2015 as that was the first year my little gal followed us to Essen, and she got to take a nice pic with Jeroen.

Yep, acutely familiar; I work for their exclusive hobby store distributor in the US. :)
Excited that it's making another return (as well as its Ketchup expansion!)

in case you've not heard, Klaus Teuber the designer of the CATAN series has passed away (1-Apr). RIP to an industry icon.

The Catan studio team urged those mourning Teuber to 'honor Klaus' memory by being kind to one another, pursuing your creative passions fearlessly, and enjoying a game with your loved ones.'

Here's our tribute to all the games Teuber has brought to our tables (not the complete list, but almost!) Thank you Klaus for bringing so much joy into our life and may you rest in peace.

I did not hear about Klaus. :confused

I may need to dig out the autographed editions of games we got from him in the late 90's - early 2000's.

Anyone here want to sell me Secret Hitler? Would rather buy used but am fine picking it up from the store as well. Let me know, fun game.

excellent game. been a while though, ive played many times online but sadly never played the physical version

I've found the game plays waaaaayy better with the right people. You need the energetic, arm-flailing, passionate "fascist" accusations. I cannot see how that would translate online.

We finally got FROSTPUNK: THE BOARD GAME to the table. The GENERATOR is a big table presence, and the game plays true to its video game - bleak and brutally hard.
