Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (85 Viewers)

Do you feel that way about all oversized inlay RHCs or do you think it’s unique to them? I’ve never handled them but have no problem with my Bahamias.
I think it depends on how used the chips are. I had sets of PNYs and Bahamias that were near mint. And I have a huge set of CPs. The CPs that I have that are near mint are the same imo as the PNYs and Bahamias in terms of slipperiness. The more used ones are a bit more slippery, but I wouldn’t call them a problem. To each their own, I guess.

Also you should consider the Hall of fame an insight into chipping history and evolution. Trends come and go in hobbies, and options were also more limited 10 years ago. For example for CPC: Edgespots, molds and colors have all been expanding over time, so one could argue that it is easier to make a great set now than way back when even sticking to CPC.
This. Sure, there are probably some sets that found their way in due to votes from friends and not due to the set itself, but for the most part I believe it’s just the evolution timeline.

As someone who stumbled on this site recently, and have been addicted ever since, finding just about everything entertaining and chock full of great info...
The Hall of Fame is kind of a wet fart. Yes, some cool sets (love Jeep's work like everyone else), but damn if there isn't a lot of boring, even pedestrian stuff.

No ban hammer, please!

Yeah I’ve not worked out how HOF is judged yet.

Maybe I’m uncouth with my love of fantasy cali Tiger’s lol

If you're only looking at the sets in the HOF resource, you're missing out on much of what's meant to be fun about the HOF. Below are links to all the past voting threads, which have write-ups and photos for all the sets that were nominated each year (not just the winners). These threads also have information on the HOF purpose & process and how sets get nominated for voting. And I'll paste what is IMHO the most important piece of that intro here: "The entire HOF process is solely intended to celebrate and augment the enjoyment of our hobby." It's meant to be a fun thing, that's it. No cash prizes, no secret club membership with benefits, just a bit of fun.

@Irish thanks for posting this here, I haven’t seen many of these sets before (and unfortunately looks like a lot of the older picture links are broken). It’s fun to see how sets have evolved over time and certain themes played off of each other. Has there ever been any consideration to retroactively induct sets into the HOF? I see some gorgeous sets in these lists that I’m surprised didn’t make it (Aurora Club for example). Given how sets and tastes have evolved it may be worth revisiting some of these.

Also, it would be great if more of these were in the chip database or other central location to easily fined.
