Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (17 Viewers)

And I know, IG owners will vote Ig and JD will vote JD, but I was hoping by posting here someone would partially open my eyes like woah, I didn’t notice how well this specific JD denom played with this one.

For what it’s worth, I think I personally give a slight edge to JD, and I only own IG. Maybe it’s a grass is greener / shades of envy situation, but here’s the IG lineup I have:

And while I really do love this set, I have to admit that the bright colors of the JD 5 and the Watermelon really do give it the slight edge for me.

I agree. Most def not my preferred lineup of IGs.
Once upon a time, they made a chipset with way too many white edgespots. They looked so bad, they decided not to open the casino. But the PCFers scooped them up because they were all mint.
I have no idea of this has any truth but it’s hilarious.

For what it’s worth, this was the exact IG lineup I wanted - got it directly in the Chip Room sale. I just still slightly prefer JD.
No doubt. Different opinions make it great, I think my preference for the other $25 is an unpopular opinion as well.

You can’t *give* those chips away (primary 8V $25s), and yet I bought up enough of em to run a limit set of $25s.

But - I think a lot of IG owners who prefer the secondary $25 prob would also prefer Jacks.

(I don’t personally think that a bright color chip and the watermelon are so stunning to overcome messed up shapes, bad progression, no cohesion, and claw/8V/arc yellow, BUT it’s the first argument I understand and respect - you simply like the chips and colors of $5/$25 a ton and the rest may not be as important. Makes total sense to me in that regard)

Yeah, this part totally tracks and makes sense, and I would bet you’re right on that hunch.

And that’s what I think is great about art (and really the subjective human experience in general)! We can all get completely different preferences and reactions from looking at the same thing.

I do not understand why poker chips are called chips, when they are clearly cookies. Deliciously gorgeous colour chips cookies. It is decided, I'll use "colour chips cookies" now. :wtf:

Don't let everyone in on the secret. I've been eating them before anyone else here.

What's the story?

The JD chips were manufactured just before the casino sold and the owner's decided to re-brand, making the newly manufactured chips essentially homeless. So they sat in the Paulson warehouse for a time until TCR worked their sorcery and made a deal to purchase them before they had to be cancelled. So the mass of JD chips (primary cash, secondary cash, roulette, tourney, what have you) were all mint, unplayed, and unhandled until they were sold to the secondary market, i.e. us (and some select others of equally dubious mentality and priorities).

I appreciate knowing that now and it’s interesting (I’m sure it gets more interesting the more detailed it gets), but definitely was expecting a bit more - my expectations might be too high with stories of bank bags filled with chips and old men on porches and spending $400 on shots at a bar after getting the bar’s Paulson chips.

JD and IGs.....

$1s
The coolest Jack to me is the $1, what a cool snowflake. Does that beat out the IG $1s? Doubtful since one has the exact same spots and faux shaped inlay. So......tie ish? I could see folks going either direction.

$5
Ummm....not even remotely close. Tiger claw, 'murica, nuff said.

$25
Yes, one looks like a fruit we eat. And yeah I think they're dope, it's got pink! The other is just a....... 8V! Not to mention that the watermelon is the better of the two options for JD and it's a repeating shape, circle. Easy winner for IG here.

$100
I could see some people go JD here. For me ARC yellow baby, can't fricken go wrong and what a cool spot patter for a hundo, and yes I know the spot patter is one that is a lot of hate/love. So I guess I could see an objective coin flip here, but I sure hear a lot more pandering for arc yellow on here than I do for what the JD has.

Lineup
JD spot progression doesn't make much sense. Spots get less and less from the 1 to the 5 to the 25 to the hundo kinda? Maybe you can pretend to like the backwards progression although we never hear that. Then there's the repeating shapes, and the fact that with the black inlay on black chip with the undo, the only really noticeable faux shape is on the $1? Huh.

IG contains claws, 8v, and arc yellow within the 4 denoms, faux shaped inlays throughout.

I'd put this one at a landslide.

Noone wants to talk about this? Everyone who paid through the nose and continues to do so for......what? Because we called them "watermelons"? Give me a break, this isn't even remotely close, IG are light years ahead.

$1s are a toss up, $5s are easily IG, I'll even allow someone to say $25 toss up although the Watermelon makes no sense in the lineup, and I'll even allow someone to say $100 is a toss up, and the overall lineup and cohesion is a landslide of IG.

Anyone paying through the nose for a JD set today instead of a mint IG set sitting in the classifieds is.....not smart. Y'all need some sense knocked into ya.
Some complain that the IG 25 green is too light and that the secondary $25 is a better chip. Poppycock! The combo of green/yellow/purple on an 8V chip is an automatic winner!

IG sec hundo is one of the greatest RHC hundos ever! The only negative I can see is that when stacked, they don't look like a black base chip because the spots are wider. But that's nitpicking.

Also, I know everyone loves the snowflake chips, but personally, I like the IG primary $1 better than the secondary.

I think over time that the IGs will become a classic lineup.

Yes and no. The IG primary $25 IS too light. The deeper green on the secondary is a much better color. But the primary is still the better chip. It’s just flawed in its pastelness, mostly because it doesn’t fit in with the other chips in the rack.
