Ketogenic Way of eating... (1 Viewer)

Definitely keep up with the water. Not only will it help with the cramping but it will also
help keep unwanted cravings down.
Stay focused @liftapint, it gets a little easier each day. :)

And when you reach your goal you can eventually have a few again. :D

I'm stagnate at a 7-9 pounds of weight loss. I do have to keep reminding myself that the 4 weeks I've done this I was on vacation for 11 days. OMG a beer would taste so good right about now.

I'm picking my wife at the airport at 2. She is requesting to go out have a drink before heading home. Its going to be tough to order a bourbon instead of a M-43!

I hosted a dinner party last night for some neighbors who are moving to St. Louis. All night long, I kept filling their glasses with IPA from my favorite brewery. Spiked Seltzer, 0 carbs, for me. THAT was some dedication, right there. LOL.
That is awesome and good for you!
I can’t tell you how many times I go to card games and all they serve is junk and I just have to avoid it.
My rule of thumb is never go to a card game hungry and bring your own drinks.

I've actually been +3/+4 lbs for the last few days.

Grrr.

If host is on keto, it's easier. @detroitdad offered me almonds at his last game. Of course, @mike32 brought a box of donuts...

I’ve also made it a rule of thumb that when I travel to Michigan to play cards, Keto goes on the back burner till I get home.
I can’t resist sloppy joes @detroitdad s, and Dom’s bakery only being 1.6 miles away. :D

Get yourself into a weekly exercise routine and you can cheat a little here and there.
2 brisk 30 minute walks is all it takes.

Is this supposed to be harder on keto? I used to jog (slowly) 5-miles, twice/week. But now on keto, just walking up stairs wears me out. That seems weird, right?

While I'm not at my goal weight, I feel a ton better. I'm happy where I'm at and my health has improved. If I never lost another pound, I'd be happy maintaining. That's said, I'm down like 27 lbs total only changing my diet and not increasing exercise at all.

But yes, I need to find time to get back to running... That'll jump start my metabolism again, and I feel so much better when running. Plus, I need to out up a 5k that that @Moxie Mike can make fun of...

I’m guessing that the lack of carbs can take away from your energy level at first till your body adjusts. Could possibly be what your experiencing.

It takes a long time for the body to become "fat adapted" you can be in ketosis and not fully fat adapted. Usually it is advised to not do extreme exercise in the begging as you are burning a different source of fuel you need to get used to. Once you are fully fat adapted you wont be as tired/weak and you will be able to exercise easier. Simple walks should be fine, but hard weight training or running a lot would probably be hard if energy levels are low.

That is great information.

6 month update - down around 60lbs, but progress has slowed tremendously. Working hard to get under 300 for the first time since college, only 6 pounds to go! I am stubborn and want to hit that number without exercise, but I just took my parents spin bike home and as soon as I get to that goal I am going to start some spinning and walking to speed up the rest of the weight loss. First major goal 299. Second major goal 260 (100lbs down). From there I will figure out the 3rd goal.

What I found, especially the first couple of months into keto, was the first few minutes of a workout session (elliptical / erg) were a bit tougher, but after about 5 minutes I felt fine and actually had more energy than before (my workouts are typically ~30 minutes). You lose a little of that initial startup umph that come from the carbs, but after startup you level off.

Thanks for all the great info guys. I'm only about 2.5 weeks in, so I need to be patient with the exercise part of it, sounds like.

Another great exercise you can do is shadow box. If you take a 2-3lbe dumbbell in each hand and throw combinations for 3-3 minute rounds, you would not believe what a workout it is just keeping your hands up for 3 minutes at a time.
When I lost my first 15lbs in the beginning, I hit that plateau where I couldn’t seem to lose more. I changed up my routine a bit and started shadow boxing this way, the lbs started coming off again.
At first this is just an upper body routine. As you get more comfortable with it, you can start to move around. Try to work up to where you can do 3 minutes on your toes and move around a fixed object while you throw punches.
3-3 minute rounds with a minute rest between each. This is tougher than a 30 minute run to me. I don’t know the calorie burn but I do know it’s one quick and easy hell of a workout.

Picked up the Vanilla and Mint Chip flavors of Rebel at my local ShopRite. The prices weren’t listed on the freezer case, but I knew I’d probably have a heart attack at the register. I was right.

The general consensus is to let it soften a bit first, correct?

10-15 minutes of room temp and it is good to go. I don't mind the price as a pint lasts me a week and its such a nice treat on days when my fat or calories are low and I need to up them after dinner.

And -2.2 this morning!

I always check this thread but never actually posted. Great to see you all doing such good things and getting healthy. It's inspiring.

I started a lifestyle change about 1.5 months ago. Been over 300 pounds almost all of my adult life, but knew I had to do something when I crept over 400 recently. Once I started logging everything I ate, I went from 5000+ calories a day down to 1200 max. Did that for a few weeks to get my body used to surviving on less. Then switched over to low carb. I'm not calling it keto because I'm nowhere near as strict as you guys, but I seldom go over 20 net carbs per day (that's my goal). But honestly, I don't really focus on carbs, just eat what my body needs that day. The focus is on removing the power that food has over my life - breaking the addiction.

45 days in and I'm down 40 pounds. Feel much better, about to incorporate more exercise. I am in control what I eat now. I don't focus on ketosis, so if I have a cheat meal (not cheat day) during special occasions that require "normal" eating, I can see the scale go up the next day and not get frustrated.

For my 40 pound weight loss, my wife and I planned a Mexican restaurant meal (I know, food rewards typically not a good idea). Though I had planned to go all out, I actually wanted to make better decisions. 3 tacos on flour shells turned into a grilled chicken entrée. I wolfed down a small basket of chips and queso, and was happy doing it (1500 calories and 76 carbs for the day), but the scale only increased 0.2 pounds today, so I feel good about that. I don't consider it sustainable if you can't occasionally indulge in something you enjoy.

Long road to go, but I'm in a much better spot mentally. I'm committed and excited to see the progress I will continue to make.

Keep up the inspiring posts. Thanks!

I was thinking about how much weight PCF has collectively lost...it's pretty staggering.

Then I thought I'd put my own weight loss into terms that makes more sense to PCF. Since February, I've lost 1,188 10g chips. Think about that the next time you lug around your travel set...
