I see that some people ordered separate times to make their percentages. That is not in the spirit of the limits. No one has exploited this loophole before. I will be honoring these orders, since I wasn't specific on the instructions. It will be addressed in the next sale.

Jim

Good to see Jim will be addressing this. I had my small order in within seconds but missed out on the 500s so I passed on everything. Maybe next time.

I might be in that group, because of the $500 chip not being there I had to do last second adjustments and ended up accidentally only ordering 1940 chips... needing 2000 to legitimately get my 100 Quarters I added 60 more of another denom (I think $25 or $100) to make it an even 2000... so I'm one of the guys with two orders, but not to exploit anything!

I made the same mistake and back filled my order when I realized I was off.

You've also never specifically said you would combine shipping on multiple orders. :) At least ship each order as priced at checkout, i.e. send X boxes, charging full freight on each one.

Sale opens in a few hours, and I got this:

Made up my mind to replace this setup:

Now I got this

And this

... and no Native Lights. :(

wanted to get a small set, but decided not to, didn't know there would be sample sets, but I just got one , thanks. I guess I wouldn't have had chance at my small set anyway. Appreciate what you offer us Jim, always. These sales seem to get more cutthroat every time, ( unless it's a huge amount of chips offered). Hard to know what to do. Maybe create your own set breakdowns to sell and offer sets for sale ??

Exactly what happened to me. I have little doubt that we're being referred to, though.

People specifically stated they were going to use the loophole earlier in the thread.

Curious...when several members are adding large quantities of chips to their baskets and then checking out without completing the purchase only to view “how many chips are still available” does this prevent others from actually making a purchase?

I don't think so. Based on my understanding of PayPal's system, the database inventory totals only change when an order is completed. That is, checkout has finished, payment has been made, and a receipt has been sent.

It's not like airline tickets where your seat is "held" for 10-15 minutes until you finish your checkout.

If you load a chip and it is unavailable, try loading less of that chip in your cart. If it works the second time, you get a sense of the inventory that is remaining.

Was looking to make a small T1000 tourney set. Like many others was checking out within the first min (not doing the whole order $500s as a separate order strat), and missed the $500's. So if anyone who got em can part with 40-60, can flip em to me

Otherwise I'll prob have some 5s, 25s, and hundos to sell at cost for those wanting to fill out (y)

I've tried at least 20 times to add 66x $5s since about 1:20pm and have gotten the sold out notice every time. But I could add 10 at any time. ???

I'm going to have some to trade, maybe. Depends on the results of the other two sales!

I received store down for maintenance when I tried to continue my order without the $500s. Had to remove completely to complete order. Overall not a great experience.

People have also specifically stated during previous sales that this is what they've done... I assumed it was common practice. I don't recall Jim ever saying it was frowned upon until today.
I also had assumed it, although I wasn't really aware how fast these things go, being my first ChipRoom race. With how readily everyone seemed to agree about it, it sounds like its not the first sale where this is a thing, but maybe how small these batches are is affecting the way it's being looked at.

Maybe it never manifested itself so spectacularly as it did today so while it was going on it got lost in the noise of 300+ orders? If there were only 1,000 $500s available (just making up numbers) that shit's going to surface in the first 10 seconds.

I'm not sure about this supposed loophole, or even if there is one.

I sat this sale out but I think people misunderstood Jim's rules on the limits. In prior sales I always took the limits to be per order. So if I wanted 500's this time, I would have put the 200 max in my cart and then just quick add enough 1s or 5s to make the order work. Then come back and work on the chips that don't sell so fast. Maybe I'm confused, it happens often, but to blatantly put through an order violating the limits seems wrong.

If you did that your set would consist of nothing but 1/5/500 as you'd need a 2000 chip order to get the 200 500s and there is a 2000chip max per household.

I like many others did exactly what you described. You couldn’t type fast enough. The $500’s were already gone.

The ideal system would be something like Ticketmaster's (ugg did I just say that?) where you select what you want and then you are temporarily holding on to actual inventory and you have so much time to advance through the checkout process. If you don't complete the checkout within the alloted time your inventory is released back to the pool. Since a system would have to be custom built it could also be designed to have proper limit enforcement and it could do full logging/auditing behind the scenes to reconstruct each sale and address any foul play. I built something similar years ago when I was doing web design work; it was probably 20-30 hours all told.

Having to keep database inventory of each chip could be resource intensive for large sales maybe there would have to be a policy that all chips are sold in multiples of 10 or something. But still very doable.
