I have found that I am enjoying bourbon more neat than with ice even

That's how I've always drank it. Same with my Tequila as well.

I'm looking forward to enjoying a few nips of various whiskeys, bourbons, and single malt neat or not at the Rumble. We'll see what shows up and what I bust out myself.

use the orange and lemon peel (not rind) rather than the fruit when you muddle with the bitters, will make it a lot different. Unfortunately, my version has all the fruit and sugar, so you would hate mine, but it is family tradition version.

I have found that I am enjoying bourbon more neat than with ice even. Not that I drink it often, but that 5-7 times a year, seems better to me. Maybe because I am old and it warms my soul.....

BiGGyT

Biggy, you have to show me your technique next time you are over.

One of my favorites. The local liquor store only had the Double Rye.

I've had a few Old Fashioneds. I'm not a fan of them. I prefer my drinks neat. Not a fan of any sweet flavors in my drinks.

They are either really good or really bad IMO. A good one is fantastic. Although I can appreciate purism as well.

My daughter is a bartender/waitress. For fathers day last year she took me to a high end bourbon bar. She said the Old Fashioneds are top notch. I much preferred the flights of whiskey neat that we ordered.

Any particular year on the Glenrothes? It changes quite a bit from year to year.

And have you tried the JW Double Black? Pretty damned good at $30...

Just finished a glass of Oban Little Bay -- very nice after brats, beans, and beer.

Currently giving the Stronachie 18 a go. Me likely.

I have a bottle of Stagg Jr to pick up as well.

What does Stagg Jr retail for in the US?

Glenlivet Nadurra and Balvenie Doublewood after supper at Jaleo in DC tonight. Neither was perfect, but the blend of the two doubles was just about right.

Tuesday was national bourbon day. I've been celebrating since with Buffalo Trace and Knob Creek.

I quite like the Buffalo Trace. It's one of the very few bourbons available over here at a reasonable price (currently $25/bottle).

We had our first glasses of Clyde Mays "Alabama-Style" whiskey last night. Tasted like a very smooth bourbon.

Apparently it has hints of apple and cinnamon, but they weren't evident to us.

And it's made in Florida, of all places, though we've never seen it down there...

I picked this one up earlier in the week.

A new one on me - this is a "teaspooned" whisky. This Westport is a 'blend' of Glenmorangie 21 and Glen Moray 21.

I believe Glenmorangie do not permit other bottlers to bottle their own incarnations of Glenmorangie 21, so only sell it on on the basis that it will be used in a blend.

So the bottlers get round this by teaspooning - adding a small amount (a "teaspoon") of other malt to create a different blend.

The fella I was speaking to was saying that it's 1 part Glen Moray to 50 parts Glenmorangie.

So not exactly Glenmorangie 21 but not far off. And a darn site cheaper. A great drop!

Anyone had Monkey Shoulder? Not a bad scotch.

Yeah it's not bad. It'seems widely available in the UK. For the same price i'do probably go for Aberlour 10 or Jura 10, or a better blend.
