Monkey shoulder is alright, decent for its price, but as mentioned there are definitely better options. I've never had the glenmorangie 21, and not sure if I have an appeal to try it. I have a bottle of the 10/18 at home and frankly for the difference in price the 18 isn't worth it. The 10 though I feel is one of the better values at $40/bottle.

I picked this one up earlier in the week.

A new one on me - this is a "teaspooned" whisky. This Westport is a 'blend' of Glenmorangie 21 and Glen Moray 21.

I believe Glenmorangie do not permit other bottlers to bottle their own incarnations of Glenmorangie 21, so only sell it on on the basis that it will be used in a blend.

So the bottlers get round this by teaspooning - adding a small amount (a "teaspoon") of other malt to create a different blend.

I'm shocked that Glenmorangie has enough 21-year-old stock to sell it off at low enough prices to make this possible. Most distilleries have been running short on older barrels since Macallan first had to reposition their bottlings.

It was a gift, and I'm not a huge scotch drinker so expectations were low, so I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it. I don't know that I would choose it at a bar, and particularly not if I was in the UK.

Over here it's £70/bottle. Or $100. Up to 100% mark up!

Is it worth it at that price?

Our bourbon options are limited in the UK. :(
Toby, Toby, Toby. Just tell me what you want and what you want to spend, and I'll hand-carry it over next time I visit my inlaws. I can Royal Mail it to you, unless you wanna come down to London.

And for that price I can prolly find a bottle of the George T Stagg.

A friend of mine sent these two bottles to me as a thank you for referring some business his way. Looking forward to trying both. Had never heard of the Garrison Brothers until I opened up the package last night when I got home from work.

Garrison Brothers is nice and smooth, but it's probably the most wheat-forward whiskey I've had.

Heard great things about the Whistle Pig Old World Rye... Saw a bottle in Chicago during the WCB and almost snagged... Hard to find those here in Michigan... Looking forward to your thoughts on it...

Yes it is. I'm pretty sure @Gear liked it so much, he was gonna stop and grab 2 bottles to take back with him.

Only one, actually, but I'm still grateful for the heads-up! We stopped by Tipsy's on the way out of town and picked one up. I also got a bottle of Tito's vodka, but that's another thread.

What did you think of Tipsy's? Nice place to go shopping 'eh?

Yeah, it was pretty nuts. Great brand selection although the sizes available were a little odd ... for example I wanted a 40 oz bottle (1.14 litre) of Stolichnaya but they only had 750 ml and 1.75 litre. (40 oz or 1.14 litre is the maximum allowable duty-free.)

Still, pretty impressive. I laughed 'cause I got carded at the checkout. Me, the 42-year-old who got offered a seat on public transit not that long ago.

I gather everyone gets carded :)

At 37 I am starting to crave any situation where I get carded or at the very least not called "sir". I remember when I first started to get called sir by younger people; it was weird but I liked it, "Damn right I'm a siiiiir" ;).... But now I wish I was still treated like a punk. The girl at the starbucks drive through called me dude the other day, "Thanks dude!" as I got my drink, I was on cloud 9 for a few minutes. :D I'm not going to age gracefully that's for sure, I will be the guy that is waaaaayyyyy to old to be doing whatever it is I'm doing at any particular time.

@ChaosRock - maybe my favorite whiskey to date. Expensive, but will likely pick up a bottle once I finish of this one. Already 2/3rds of the way gone. Great neet or with 1 small ice cube.

New shipment just came in. Yum.

Bill, Blantons is one of my favorite bourbons. Took me a couple years but I finally drank enough to have each of the unique corks to complete the "horse race". Just so smooth...

I normally like a little more bite to my bourbon. Your right. This was very smooth and flavorful. Can't wait to share it with my oldest. She is 27. Had been a bourbon fan longer than I

Wow!!! That says a LOT about that bottle huh? Good to know Matt... Not sure how likely I am to find that special of a bottle around here but I have a few trips planned and maybe I'll bring one home... Now I NEED to try it!

Last night as part of a monthly tournament, we did a single malt tasting trying to keep the price around $60 per bottle.
This is what we tasted;

Glengrant (Speyside) 16yr
Grangestone (Highland) 18yr
Auchentoshan (Lowland) Triple Wood
Talisker Storm (Islay)

Personally, I think the first 3 are all good single malts, with the Grangestone being my favorite. I can do without the Talisker.
