It really opens up with a bit of water. No shame in ice. LOL.

The only ECBP that I put ice in is the 130+. I recently owned a bottle of the 138.6 proof. WOW............talk about heat lol. I put one of those large ice balls in it for about 10 minutes. Removed it, and it was absolutely perfect.

Maybe three years ago. I’ve seen a bottle on a shelf for $100. Yes that was when the hype was high but even now I think they are $40-50.

edit: that comes across probably harsh and not the intent. Just think the hype is higher than the price dictates now (although I still haven’t opened my bottle). Also probably better options at that price point. I agree that back when it was $25-30 probably nothing could beat it.
1000% agree. At $30ish it was a steal. It’s a joke being sold for $50. $100 is robbery.

I just picked up a few bottles of Pappy today. Happy Holidays.

Yeah...so......WTF? as stated previously by many a PCF'er. I haven't found a SINGLE Pappy line in over 3 years. (meaning NEVER.... b/c Bambi, that is when I started looking). Are you saying you got 9 bottles tonight at retail prices.......ORRRRRRRR are you saying you are rich?

(sorry I am rewatching scrubs and kinda feelin like dr cox)

Well there's a missed opportunity. New liquor store in town, didn't even think to check their facebook page or follow it. I've stopped in from time to time, but none of these were ever on the shelf:

10/22, Elijah Craig 18 in stock, Old Fitzgerald 14yr BiB in stock, sold at retail
11/5, McKenna BiB in stock, Little Book in stock, sold at retail
11/16, George T Stagg in stock, sold at retail
11/17, Blanton's in stock, sold at retail
11/19, Michter's 10yr bourbon in stock, sold at retail
11/19, Angel's Envy cask strength in stock, sold at retail
12/3, Pappy 12 in stock, sold at retail

Of course they sold out of all of these almost instantly. I would only have been interested in a few.

I have an interesting dilemma (if you can call it that). I was gifted this bottle of Hibiki 17 about ~5 years ago. Since then its value has skyrocketed (~$800) and I have felt uncomfortable even opening it! Not sure I would appreciate it in the same way that other collectors would. I have thought about selling it to someone who would appreciate it, but that feels awkward also as it was a gift. So for now... it just sits there... in the corner of my liquor cabinet (hiding it when people come over to drink LOL)

I’m in a similar boat, I was gifted a bottle of Louis XIII for my wedding 4 years ago and it just sits in the back top cabinet (not even with the rest of the alcohol collection because I’m afraid I’d get drunk and drink it all without remembering). The value has since gone up and I’m tempted everyday to sell it to local buyers.

Sell it and use some of the money to buy a 'thank you' gift for the person who bought it for you originally - and make that gift something that might be more than you would normally pay*.

- You've 'paid it back' by giving them a nice gift
- You've 'paid it forward' to someone who will appreciate this bottle more than you will
- You've got a little $ in your pocket to buy something you'd like more.

Win - win - win

*not sure what you usually pay per bottle, but the number that jumped into my head was a $150-$200 bottle

When you say “local buyers” - you mean like Craigslist or local liquor stores?

That’s a lot of chips. :D

I know an acquaintance or two that like expensive things who have offered to purchase it at a fair price and even offered to buy the glass bottle if I were to have finished the Louis.

(1 of them actually collects the empty bottles)

edit: had to grab the ladder for a picture to reference.

Hibiki 17 is one of my favorites. I think $800 did high. I’ve bought on secondary for around $450. Let me know if you want chips in trade

Is it the current value that is preventing you from drinking it, or is it not something you typically drink?

You could trade it for another similar value bottle or multiple bottles and then enjoy enjoy drinking them

No I enjoy Hibiki, it's excellent quality, but yeah I feel strange knowing that each pour is so much $ - just a mental thing.

My hibikis. All gone now

Yep! It's always a dilemma when a bottle gets up there in value (or poker chips for that matter).

Also, fwiw, its value is not around $800 but more around $450 to $500 on the secondary.

Edit: posted while someone else was making the same point. Apologies.

im looking for yama18 under $600. Don’t think I’ll find it though
Yeah that's a nice/pricey bottle. I'm curious, just because you and @ChaosRock both quoted a similar $450-500 price range on the "secondary" market - how do both of you track these secondary markets?
