Good of a reason as any :) I cracked my bottle open a few weeks back, I really enjoyed this one, the salty brine hints are really unique.
 
Anyone in the San Jose or San Diego area close to a BevMo? Need help with a certain Single Malt bottle. If anyone can help out, just drop me a line. :tup:

Right!? Why save it for a “special” occasion?

Definitely unique. And I noticed some change in flavor as I sipped on it.
 
I know it’s a long shot but I’m just throwing this out there. If someone is able to score a high proof weller for me it would be a very merry Christmas. I’ve tried a sample before and it might be the greatest bourbon I’ve ever had before. I can trade chips or $ :rolleyes::yawn:
 
I’m skeptical about all this “neck pour” business. Someone elucidate me.
I feel the same way. I can understand the last pour being bad if a small amount oxidized, but first pour confuses me. The liquid is not contained to the neck inside the bottle. I'm open to being educated.
 
I have noticed, without a doubt, that ALL my bottles taste better after being open for at least 2 to 3 weeks. If that is not the neck pour phenomenon then I am mistaken. But I do notice a big difference in flavor after a bottle has been open a few weeks. I am assuming it is because of the extra exposure to oxygen. Anyone else ever notice this?

I was a huge skeptic too, but I’ve definitely noticed this with most bottles
 
Neck pour. No matter what you do, some parts per million level of light hydrocarbon is going to be in your whiskey when bottled. And for the most part, our palates are very sensitive to them and they are foul. The thinking goes, however, that when you open a bottle, they are the first vapors to exit, and they are, but it takes some open time, or some head space in the bottle, for that to take place. I had a Michter rye that was just nasty. Drank some a few weeks later and it was great. Call me a believer.
