Man, this Rebel 10 is definitely opening up. Delicious!

What's that you say?

My Chapter 4 remains unopened, because I haven't gotten my butt in gear to get the things done that I promised myself I'd get done before opening it. But if I see a Chapter 5 around that $125 price, I'll probably grab it. Looks like I could make +$100 on my Chapter 4 if times get rough around the homestead?

As I was finishing the Little Book, I decided to watch Tombstone. Guess which bottle took Little Books place?

The Alberta Premium is glorious, and I don’t even like rye that much.

I disagree with you. Not about the Alberta sir, but about you liking rye. You just need the right bottles. Rye IS GLORIOUS!

I'm not big on ryes, but I dabble, and some easily available ones have knocked my socks off lately. I'm looking at you WT Rare Breed Rye, and High West Rendezvous Rye.

Still not sure when I’m gonna read it. ;)

Just came across a picture of a Taiwan only, independent bottle of a Springbank 27yo. Box and label design made me think of @Windwalker of course.

Being a Springbank fanatic, I'd love to get my hands on that bottle but that cask yielded only 102. Since it is a 2019 edition, it is not likely they are out there anymore. However, @Changster , if you see any around, just drop me a line.

* not my picture, obviously

Yeah surprisingly Taiwan makes some pretty good Scotch whiskeys. Lots of whiskey drinkers here. I'll look into this for you.

Awesome! Thank you, Isaac!

And yes, 100%! Taiwan has some of the best Single Cask releases in the world from Scotch distilleries like Glendronach and Springbank to name a couple and Independent Bottlers also. Not to mention some of the fantastic Kavalans, distilled there in Yilan, Taiwan.

I don't really care for bulleit rye. I've never put GrandMarnier in an old fashioned. How did it taste?

If making a rye old fashioned, Bulleit is my go to. If using bourbon, something like Maker’s 46 works well.

The Grand Marnier is a nice addition. Give it a try sometime.

My preferred recipe:
  • 1-1.5 tsp homemade simple syrup
  • 3-5 dashes orange bitters
  • 2-2.5 oz of your preferred bourbon or rye
  • 1-1.5 oz Grand Marnier
  • Orange peel garnish
  • Cherry
  • Giant ice cube or ice ball

With the addition of the Gran Marnier, you can probably scratch the simple syrup. I have a similar old fashioned recipe with Bulleit 10 and an apricot liqueur:

Similar to mine.

.5 - 1.0 tsp of homemade simple syrup. I use turbinado cane sugar to make it.
3 dashes of orange bitters
3 dashes of angostura bitters
3 ounces of bourbon (wild turkey 101, wild turkey barrel proof, or makers mark barrel proof)
luxardo cherry (and a very small drizzle of the cherry syrup)
orange peel
giant ice ball
