Similar to mine.

.5 - 1.0 tsp of homemade simple syrup. I use turbinado cane sugar to make it.
3 dashes of orange bitters
3 dashes of angostura bitters
3 ounces of bourbon (wild turkey 101, wild turkey barrel proof, or makers mark barrel proof)
luxardo cherry (and a very small drizzle of the cherry syrup)
orange peel
giant ice ball

Haha - so similar!

A small bit of the cherry syrup happens on occasion here too.

I like to twist a bit of fresh orange juice from a slice sometimes as well…like 3-4 drops of OJ.

That sweetens it up too much for me. My wife likes an entire orange slice and cherries all muddled together. I don't call her drink and old fashioned lol. She uses simple syrup and cherry juice. That's ok. It makes her happy. Plus, her bourbon of choice for them is Evan WIlliams 100.

My old fashioned recipe is dissimilar.
2 oz whiskey
Skip the rest
C'mon, you at least need to add the luxardo cherry - that's like a treat for eating all your vegetables!

Michters rye just $20.

Another RRR

Looking forward to trying this WT

I think that may be a Wisconsin Old Fashioned.

I found them very good but you have to use a high proof bourbon, or I find it too sweet.

My go to is a coffee old fashioned. Equal parts bourbon and mr black with a couple dashes of orange bitters.

I may have to give that a shot

Is this better than the square silicone trays? What’s the box?
Yes—better than just trays because no bubbles. The box is basically an insulated thermos, so that the ice freezes from the top down rather than from all sides, which pushes the air bubbles out and results in solid clear cubes.
Okay so I watched a video about monodirectional freezing. You think an insulated thermos would do this too?
Yes—there are some YouTube videos on this. But the downside is it is less simple, and you have to cut up the ice yourself. Also, this unit is a lot smaller than a small igloo, so it fits better in the freezer.

I’m very impressed with the wintersmiths product (have the phantom mini) might buy another and I have all my drinks neat.

A sphere has been left outside in the cup overnight and was still mostly intact.

Those clear giant ice cubes are so cool and every time I see them I go check out the silicon molds and the freezing contraptions to keep the ice clear. I even put them in my Amazon cart. But then just as I go to buy I remember I don’t put ice in my bourbon and it would be a complete waste, just like the higher denomination chips in my cash sets. And I so I sit here admiring but never partaking in the fancy ice.

I usually dont put ice either, but its been like 85 at 9pm so sitting outside with a cigar is just nicer with ice

Like that. Wee beastie is the only thing maybe out of place, but it’s a lot cheaper than the 10 and almost as nice so good value for money.

If sampling, drink in same order?
oh, uhhh, least smokey to most probably? but like that's a LOT of ardbeg in a row.

You'd probably be better off with wee beastie, 10 year and ugidal and then skipping the rest to try something else even if also from islay.

Oogie = Corry > Scorch > 10 > Beastie > An Oa

Between Oogie and Corry, it's a mood thing for me. Oogie is sherried and Corry has some virgin French Oak in it.

I don't think I'll buy the Beastie again. It is not bad but the 10 is way better for me, for not a whole lot of price difference (opposite opinion of @JustDave)**. The An Oa is not bad either but it's too mild for me. A good introduction to 'Beg though.

** Comment based on release prices and prices I see around. It seems the Beastie is on sale for you and the 10 has increased in price a bit. For that difference, if it's me, I'd still go with the 10 but the equation changes a bit.
