It was great meeting @Big Jilm on Saturday. Thanks for the beer! My wife always gets a kick out of meeting my internet friends. Hahahaha

So, yeah… I sent 7 bottles Jim’s way and took home 18 bottles from him. :p I can’t resist Oregon prices. I appreciate @Big Jilm so much for finding and storing these bottles for me. This meetup was months in the making. And so worth it!

I don’t know what I’m most excited to try.

Knob Creek 15 o_O
4x Knob Creek Rye store picks :D

I recently finished a bottle of the Redwood Empire. Solid bottle at an affordable price (at least in OH). I haven't tried most of these. Hell, I've never even heard of Blue Spot lol.

I find it almost laughable how stores all charge different prices for the same product. By different, I mean exponentially more.

Angels Envy Rye for example. I got it for $75/bottle. Most places it’s $92-$98.
The store next to my house has it for $399.99. I don’t get it. I haven’t said anything, as I don’t want to offend. I assume they believe some sucker will buy it, but every other store within 5 miles (and there are about 8) has it for less than $100.

I see that almost every store around me has 1 bottle in the price gouging range with every other store having it at the normal price.

YMMV

Many stores are constantly playing games in some form or fashion. They're largely banking on ignorance (or folks that just don't care about price) - those customers that walk into a store, see something with a big price tag sitting there - maybe they recognize the name - and think it has to be something special just because it's expensive.

Hell, two of my better local stores are owned by the same dudes, 3 miles apart - and prices can vary pretty wildly between the two stores on several pretty popular offerings.

They'll also go on price benders. Your favorite local store may have the cheapest prices in January - and by May they're now 15% higher than other stores in the area. That may not matter to the guy buying a bottle every other month, but for those of us chasing different bottles every other week with collections of 50+ bottles, a little bit of research can save you a good deal of cash. Takes time though, like any other hobby.

The thing I spotted was Bruichladdich. Can spot that classic laddie turquoise anywhere.

This is like the one time that the state controlled liquor stores are a good thing. The price is just like X% over MSRP or something across the board. So super hard to find thing in some states where we have a 3-400% markup just goes for retail. But limited selection kinda blows.

Had a good friend looking out for me... really wanted this

I've been keeping an eye out for this but haven't spotted one yet. Dare I ask how much it was going for?
Retail is $70, so a little more than the JD SB BP bottles, but not by much (those are $65 or so). My guy zapped me for a little more than the $70, but less than a Jackson more. He knows this is rare this year and will sell fast, so I can't blame him. Lucky for me, he is not one of those qUadRuPlE The PrICe guys.

And I opened my first Barrell Seagrass last night, but didn't get a chance to drink it. (Fell asleep on the couch while watching Endeavour and grading papers) But the aroma, freaking amazing. Just WOW. Done spamming y'all now.

I lied, one more photo spam. I could find very little about these two bottles of HOOTEN YOUNG online, but my guy has them for about $70 and about $100. If they said bourbon and not whiskey, I might have tried harder to find info.

My favorite distillery is Laphroaig. The 18 year old is no longer bottled but if you can find it, it’s a beautiful whisky. Their Quarter Cask is also quite good but not as subtle as the 18.

I am very fond of peated whiskies like Laphroaig and Lagavulin and sweet Sherry bombs like Glenrothes.
Have you tasted Ardbegs?

Drinking the one on the right tonight. It's the only pic I have of it where it's open, so just ignore the Little Book "flex". That's for my Indiana facebook group who largely gave me crap for NoT oPeNiNg ThEm RiGhT aWaY.

I'm not a big apricot guy. The taste is just alright to me. And Seagrass is drowning in apricot. It's very apparent in the flavors.

And I LOVE it. This shit is WONDERFUL. Straight or on the rocks. I had low expectations when I poured it, because it's probably the lightest whiskey I own coming out of the bottle. But you get it in your nose and mouth and it's marvelous. Really. Amazing stuff. The combination of the aggressive spicy rye with the apricot finish is unexpectedly magnificent.

Getting near the end of my Knob Creek 15 year. It tastes so much better now than when I opened it. Super slow to change and for me to appreciate it. I will pop the 12 year after it. From what I hear it is better.

This one is also very good. Maybe more caramel and less nutty.

More vanilla and some cherry on this one. The nuttiness is minimal here.

I thought that the B520 was my favorite but now I’m not so sure. I don’t know if I can pick a favorite.

I have the B521 to try in a couple weeks.

I’m almost through my first bottle of the 12yr and feel the same way. It took a bit for me to love it. I’ve poured the neck pour of the 15yr into my infinity bottle. I’ll taste it in a few weeks.

So does that mean your not gonna send it my way? Haha.
