Official PCF Whisk(e)y Thread (59 Viewers)

Back from 2.5 weeks in Scotland and Ireland.
- Glenlivet was unexpected spectacular, had a few of the best whiskeys of my life their including the 16y single Sherry cask I brought home.
- the Strathisla tour and blending experience is incredible, and 25+year Chivas straight from the cask is eye-openingly amazing.
- Glenallachie rocks
- Macallan was the most pretentious overcommercialized expensive and underhwelming whiskey experience of the trip (but their visitor center is a really cool building)
- Having a 7mo pregnant wife to both drive me around and score me extra Driver’s sample packs =ftw

They gave you whiskey samples from damn separatory funnels. That is AWESOME.
That was the Strathisla blending lab! Got to blend a 250ml bottle to keep from 5 different whiskeys chosen by profile - fruity, floral, spicy, creamy and smoky. Really really cool opportunity and was like a 45£ tour including the tasting in the Chivas cave vault. Best whisky experience to date.

On vacation hot weather Woodford Reserve bottle kill whiskey sours.

Four shots in, and I don't drink often, so I'm feeling mighty fine. The condensation is from the fact that I refrigerated everything. Ice, whiskey, sour mix. My ice lasts longer that way. Woodford is ok, but not great for the price (hello Rare Breed, or Makers 101), so when this is gone, whiskey shelf #1 will have some more space because I don't plan on replacing it.

I am going to Ocean City MD and Atlantic City NJ in a couple of weeks. Any local spots I should hit up?

When I was doing my contest I had one head to head with 1792 and 1920 against each other. goin back and forth between the two glasses it just got better and better, so I made a blend to try it out.

Someone else who has both these needs to try this out, it is fruity, cherry, oak. It makes an excellent blend. I am seriously thinking about blending up a bottle of this 2/1 1792/1920

Ok, first head to head than we'll try the mix.

You should be able to tell how big a fan of 1792 I am by the bottle size.....:wtf:

Yeah the mix is damn good. You get the sweet vanilla from the 1792 up front with the forever lingering dark fruit and spice and leather/char from the 1920. Good call dude.

I am going to mix some up in a bottle and let it sit for a week to really mingle. Going to call it OF 1792.

It sounds like a LOT of fun, Kyle! I hope to make the same trip someday. It's been hard to convince the wife though so I might have to go with the guys.

I hear you on Glenlivet. Such a great distillery but they present their core range in a very pedestrian way*, so not many options for enthusiasts other than the especial bottlings. Is you bottle a hand filled distillery exclusive?

*Who's to balme them as they are selling a TON! Same goes for Glenfiddich and a few others that have great stuff but decide to sell lowest common denominator stuff...
