I tend to enjoy more heavily peated whisky, typically preferring Lagavulin over other brands. However, a year ago or so I picked up a cheaper bottle of Bruichladdich's Classic Laddie which isn't as peaty as many of the other Islay Scotches. Since then it has become my new favorite and general go-to.

I need to acquire another bottle of Ron Swanson's favorite drink!

I generally feel I have to preface my appreciation of Lagavulin with the fact that I started drinking it before I had watched Parks and Rec or knew about Ron Swanson's/Nick Offerman's obsession with it.

My friend had a bottle of the Nick Offerman version of Lagavulin that we tried the other night. It's funny because my friend had no idea who Nick was. He just really likes Lagavulin and bought a bottle for his dad for Christmas and bought another bottle for himself when he found it again. It was good, but I don't know about $100/bottle good.

My wife and I are finally watching the end of the Longmire series, and I noticed the other night that they celebrated with a bottle of Lagavulin 16. Which they then proceeded to do a huge pour of and then tossed it back in one gulp like it was a shot of Fireball or something.

I agree. The Lagavulin 11 Nick Offerman is pretty good. Even excellent for a sort of gimmicky release. I'd still rate Lagas as 12 > DE = 16 > 8 = 11 > GoT > 10 (travel retail). Haven't found a bad bottle of Lagavulin yet as I have of Laphroaig (Select and Four Oak).

And totally agree, for the price, it's not a great deal, the 11. Lagavulin vary in price substantially though, depending on the region here in US for some reason. I think I paid $80 for the Offerman online. Some places sell it for $140 (LOL!). The 16 is pretty expensive here in MI, like $110ish and in some other states, it's like $65.

Now, THAT is a deal. A 16 year-old Islay for $65? Sign me up any day!

That's why I don't keep a bottle on my shelves at all times :(

Holy damn is it good. Paulo, you're the whole reason i started drinking bourbon and scotch lol

Thank you!

MI prices SUCK as far as Scotches are concern, man. LOL!!!

I can understand the reason behind the state minimum price idea (although I don't agree with it). But mandatory state min pricing on expensive items are just even more absurd.

I have to do another round. Might include the store pick next time. The Barrel Proof did seem like an amped up version. Additionally the regular fell a little flat when drank side by side. Which was disappointing because last time I drank it I recall liking it. Again last one was the store pick so maybe that had something to do with it.

Edit also felt like a rock star taking sips in between songs of Guitar Hero with the kids. :)
