Duty free on a budget! I passed on the Blantons at $150. Cheers!

Honestly I find the small disposable plastic wine cups perfect for tasting nights - they're cheap, clear so you can see the color, and the shape allows you to swirl and nose very well. And it beats washing 50 glasses lol.

Sipping nice whiskey out of a plastic cup is a sin. Yup, I said it - a SIN!

Following up on the glasses discussion. I have a bunch of glencairns but I periodically will sit around with friends trying a whole bunch of things and I’d like something smaller where 1/2 oz doesn’t look so silly. Any recommendations for a good whiskey tasting glass?
FWIW I have a professional whisky tasting operation that I do and half ounce is the usual pour and we always use regular Glencairns and nobody thinks it looks odd. For my money there is no better tasting glass. Hell I drink everything neat out of it (rum, brandy, eau di vie, cordial, etc)

As someone mentioned above, they do make a smaller version of the same glass if it really bugs you.

The finishing method on that Summerstock seems gimmicky to me. I have to say, though, it is an improvement on the bath in diesel fumes and exhaust that Roadstock went through.

Despite all the open bottles, I couldn't wait until fryeday...

Oof yeah, Barell consistently churns out great ryes. The nose is subtle and not overpowering but incredible and makes you want to stick your nose all the way to the bottom of the glass. Very well balanced between the sweet port cherry and grapey undertones and the spicy rye, almost no indication of the barrel strength. Very oily and viscious with just a hint of chewyness to the mouth. Palate is similar to the nose, not overpowering at all but still incredibly balanced, you get both the port tannins and rye up front on the tongue, but then it quickly mellows and warms as it sits. The bitterness of the rye counteracts the sweet fruit notes. Some vanilla and dark chocolate notes in the background. The rye prevails as it dries and finishes, which lingers forever. Not a total flavor bomb but absolutely incredible, and it gets better as it sits in the glass. Even at $100 a bottle, I'm going back for another.

Since starting this journey relatively recently, I’ve been in much more of an acquiring phase than a consuming phase as of late. Nothing spectacular…just trying to find and procure some of the common $60-80 level greatest hits of the thread.

Here’s my issue! And I admit it is indeed a first world problem!!

As I’ve done so, I realize I want to start sharing some acquisitions and nightly pour picks but what I currently drink out of is an utter embarrassment! Let’s call it an oversized shot glass. But the glassware I’d like to buy would make my wife puke (2 glasses for ~$100 shipped).

If you’re still reading, this is where you come in.

Help me get to my ~$40-50 glasses! Just like I’ve convinced my wife on Paulson Leaded Chips…help me convince her on a pair of nice bourbon glasses. Serious ideas or crazy - all are allowed. But if you actually are the reason she decides to say yes I’ll send ya something random in appreciation!!

GO!!
I really like this style and doesn’t tip easily. I’m sure there are cheaper option. Hope this helps
