Day 8: Ledaig Rioja Cask Finish Sinclair Series, 46.3%. Nose on this one quickly hits of peat, pepper, leather, and cherry. Tasting this beautifully colored dram brings to the forefront black pepper, apples and cherry. The finish isn't long with tannins and salt. 7/10.
Day 9: Caisteal Chamuis, 46%. This is the second Torabhaig distillery offering in the box. First look and smell reminds me of Laphroaig. Peaty campfire with hints of vanilla and caramel. This drams tastes of salt, tannins and oak with a surprise lemon quality. The finish is smokey and brings back the vanilla offering. 8/10
Day 10: Rock Island Malt Scotch Whisky, 46.8%. Nose is of peat, pear, and the ocean. The flavor of the dram is of the ocean, black pepper, peat and vanilla. The dram finishes with more pear, peat and a beautiful sea breeze. I really enjoyed this offering and want another dram. 9/10
Day 11: Mac-Talla Mara, 58.2%. This unknown Islay has the nose of a peaty campfire with undertones of nutty aromatics and hints of lemon. Tasting results in a flavor of oak, vanilla, charcoal, and finishes with lemon, peat, and sea salt. Overall, I was expecting a burn at this 58%, but this was very smooth all the way from nose to finish. I appreciated the cask strength which gets a +1 for that alone. 8/10.
Day 12: Talisker Port Ruighe, 45.8%. The aromatics of this dram are sea salt, peat, earth and hints of honey. The tasting is of thick carmel, toffee, raisins, and hints of chocolate. This finishes off with cigar smoke that turns into rich dark chocolate. As Talisker is one of my favorite distilleries this sample was a treat as it's been in my list for a while. It became even more so given the depth and complexity of this whisky. Dare I say 10/10?
Day 13: Lagavulin 8 Year Old, 48%. The nose is super strong of peat, sea salt, and honey. This dram starts with soft, but burns fast, and fizzles out with peat, sea salt, and caramel. It finishes with hints of oak and charcoal. This dram comes from my favorite distillery and is another welcome treat. I have a bottle of this already sitting on my shelf for a reason. 9/10.
Day 14: Mackmyra Svenak Rok 46.1% Nosing this one bring about subtle scents of peat, apricot, and hibiscus (Looking this up later to confirm as it was unique smell actually shows it to be juniper which is what the whisky is smoked over). The first sip is heavy and thicker than expected with smoke and catches me a bit by surprise. It also contains flavors of hibiscus (juniper), vanilla, and fruit. The finish on this one is earthy, satly, embbed with charcoal overtones. This is a really unique whisky and worthy of another dram. 8/10
Day 15: Gulliver's 47, 47%
