I’ve had both the Emerald Giant Rye and Pipe Dream Bourbon. I thought the bourbon was good, but nothing special. The rye is fantastic and easily the better of the two that I had. I’m told that the Lost Monarch blend is the best of the three but I’ve yet to find one of those.

I would snap buy the rye again if I ran across another.
Although I’m far from an expert, I have all three and would absolutely agree with @Billy Baroo - Lost Monarch is easily my favorite. Followed by Emerald Giant. Then Pipe Dream
Good to hear. I spotted Emerald Giant at my local store last week and picked one up. Been under the weather for a few days, so I haven't opened it yet. Was in there again just about an hour ago and they still have one left.

My Total Wine had a last minute bottle drop this morning for Grand Reserve members. I was 23rd in line. Coulda grabbed a Russell's 13, Michter's 10 Bourbon or Rye, or this...
How'd I do?

That’s last years. It’s expired. Just send to me to dispose of it properly

I probably would have chosen the Michter's 10 Rye. But there are no bad choices there.

This was on my desk when I got to work today..

4R or the Michter’s 10yr bourbon. It’s supposed to be the best one in years. Can’t wait to open mine!

I still have half a bottle of the Michter's 10 bourbon and I've tried the 10 rye. Really came down to the Russell's 13 vs the 4 Roses and I thought I'd have a better chance of finding the Russell's in the wild...we'll see.

Day 1-7 Notes are here:

Day 8: Ledaig Rioja Cask Finish Sinclair Series, 46.3%. Nose on this one quickly hits of peat, pepper, leather, and cherry. Tasting this beautifully colored dram brings to the forefront black pepper, apples and cherry. The finish isn't long with tannins and salt. 7/10.

Day 9: Caisteal Chamuis, 46%. This is the second Torabhaig distillery offering in the box. First look and smell reminds me of Laphroaig. Peaty campfire with hints of vanilla and caramel. This drams tastes of salt, tannins and oak with a surprise lemon quality. The finish is smokey and brings back the vanilla offering. 8/10

Day 10: Rock Island Malt Scotch Whisky, 46.8%. Nose is of peat, pear, and the ocean. The flavor of the dram is of the ocean, black pepper, peat and vanilla. The dram finishes with more pear, peat and a beautiful sea breeze. I really enjoyed this offering and want another dram. 9/10

Day 11: Mac-Talla Mara, 58.2%. This unknown Islay has the nose of a peaty campfire with undertones of nutty aromatics and hints of lemon. Tasting results in a flavor of oak, vanilla, charcoal, and finishes with lemon, peat, and sea salt. Overall, I was expecting a burn at this 58%, but this was very smooth all the way from nose to finish. I appreciated the cask strength which gets a +1 for that alone. 8/10.

Day 12: Talisker Port Ruighe, 45.8%. The aromatics of this dram are sea salt, peat, earth and hints of honey. The tasting is of thick carmel, toffee, raisins, and hints of chocolate. This finishes off with cigar smoke that turns into rich dark chocolate. As Talisker is one of my favorite distilleries this sample was a treat as it's been in my list for a while. It became even more so given the depth and complexity of this whisky. Dare I say 10/10?

Day 13: Lagavulin 8 Year Old, 48%. The nose is super strong of peat, sea salt, and honey. This dram starts with soft, but burns fast, and fizzles out with peat, sea salt, and caramel. It finishes with hints of oak and charcoal. This dram comes from my favorite distillery and is another welcome treat. I have a bottle of this already sitting on my shelf for a reason. 9/10.

Day 14: Mackmyra Svenak Rok, 46.1%

Damn came up today :D, called in to my local store to see if they had the WP18 in stock and they did for $369 + tax. That’s the lowest I’ve seen around my area and went in just to buy a tequila bottle for an upcoming party. When I asked to see the bottle it had a $219.99 price tag and they had to honor it. Needless to say I couldn’t pass up on this deal!

Day 14: Mackmyra Svenak Rok 46.1% Nosing this one bring about subtle scents of peat, apricot, and hibiscus (Looking this up later to confirm as it was unique smell actually shows it to be juniper which is what the whisky is smoked over). The first sip is heavy and thicker than expected with smoke and catches me a bit by surprise. It also contains flavors of hibiscus (juniper), vanilla, and fruit. The finish on this one is earthy, satly, embbed with charcoal overtones. This is a really unique whisky and worthy of another dram. 8/10

Day 15: Gulliver's 47, 47%

Day 15: Gulliver's 47, 47%. Before you can get your nose to the glass you can smell the campfire smoke coming from this whisky. However, closer nosing brings about a sweet citrus of orange, barley, that gets overpowered and turns back into smoke and charcoal. First taste is light and youthful, butterscotch turning to cinnamon and sugar. The finish continues with the cinnamon, which stays hot throughout, and combines with ginger and dried peaches. This dram is unique, but in the wrong way for me. 4/10.

Day 16: Port Charlotte 10 Year Old, 50%

That's a coincidence. I was just writing up a criticism of Sazerac and then you post about a Sazerac label. Never had this. Was it good?

I was running low on Rittenhouse, so I picked up Sazerac for first time. Sazerac has a lot of rye spice, but beyond that flavor seems thin compared to Rittenhouse.

Rittenhouse is better. Or OF Rye at 100 is better too.

Rock Hill Farms is great. Better than Blanton’s and Elmer T Lee. Just hard to find and pricy. I had a good pour for $21.

But did you have the prime rib French dip? Asking for a hungry friend on vacation with the munchies  :ROFLMAO:
