Just sampled all 4 I bought today (first bottle of each for me):

Makers Mark 46: good, decent heat, but kind of bland. Not impressed with the nose or the flavor

Buffalo Trace: Much smoother than I was expecting but not quite the heat I was expecting either. Extremely drinkable with a great flavor profile. At a $25 price point, it is a winner IMO.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B520: HOT!!!!! I could see adding a lil ice next time. That said what an amazing flavor profile for such a high ROH content. I think it is spectacular!! Looking forward to a full pour

Angels Envy Finished Rye: Finished in rum casks this bourbon is unlike any other I have ever tried. It is candy in a glass. I feel it is a bit hotter than the original AE which was a surprising bonus. A bit expensive, but worth it. I am a fan!!!

I won't buy my own Angels Envy Rye, but I'd sample somebody else's. So I'm curious, but not THAT curious. Glad to hear it is good.

I’m going to have to revisit EC B520, I planned on it anyway but I wasn’t a fan. Don’t ask me what I didn’t like about it just was expecting more. I tried it with regular EC and didn’t like that either which was a similar thought I had years ago when I had it.
Now the Little Book (told it was Chapter I) last week at dinner was amazing!!! Actually had plans to get a few bottles of Chapter III back in March then COVID came and ruined that plan.

Edit: okay talked myself into it.

Wish I could get Wellers in PA. They were supposed to do a Wellers lottery the week that Covid shut down the PA liquor stores. There might be cases stuffed in the back of some warehouse that'll never see the light of day.

Any suggestions on finding hard to get bottles like Weller's, ECBP, etc.? I tend to be a "go to the liquor store and get what they have" buyer, and I want to avoid inflated process on the secondary market.

There's one decent mom and pop whiskey store in the area, but it's far enough away that I'm not a regular, so most of my purchases come from the local big boxes (ABC, Total Wine).

Two bottle kills this weekend. Fantastic ones at that. Octomore 08.1 and Blantons SFTB. I'm a big fan of what Bruichladdich has been putting out lately, specially the Port Charlottes and Octomores. The SFTB should be part of the BTAC line imo. Not sure why it's not and why it's not available in the US. Go figure.

Oh, T10K FTW! :p

You're right! I thought Sazerac owned the brand but it only owns the right of distilling under it. The same company owns a bunch of other Buffalo Trace brands lie AA, ETL, RHF, Hancock, etc. So basically, all the Mashbill 2 brands.

That might not explain why Sazerac doesn't make Blantons Gold and SFTB available here in the US but it certainly explains the lack of those brands on the BTAC line up.

We have a new screening process this week. It was half ass rolled out. Of course its been a disaster this week.

I'm posting in the bourbon thread because I can't wait to have one!
