Probably not the right place but anyone interested in a 2009 Pappy 20 with clear laser code?

You guys in the U.S don't know what you're missing...here in Australia we have Buffalo Trace at 40% (yay)...already diluted for us.

First official pregame pour of the season!

Warming up for the continuation of my mega Spot flight. Green, Yellow and Red were all excellent pours, so to say I’m excited for Blue and Gold is a huge understatement! Thanks to @Saoliver for the gentle nudge deeper into the rabbit hole

Spot sample #4…Gold Spot 135th Anniversary Edition courtesy of @Saoliver

First thing I noticed was how it coated the glass after a light swirling. Super thick and legs that take forever to run back into the bottom of the pool.

The nose is amazing. I literally spent 20 minutes with my nose in the glass before I even thought about taking a sip…it’s that good! Starts off with fresh baked apple pie but then I got darker fruits and a nuttiness with an occasional whiff of traditional bourbon notes…caramel, oak and vanilla. A light milk chocolate started to enter the mix. There’s a lot going on in the nose and I can easily say it’s the best nose on an Irish whiskey I’ve had to date.

The palate is almost a carbon copy of the nose except for the sweetness is ever so slightly turned down which I think is from the oak coming on stronger here than in the nose. This drinks much older than its 9yr age statement and much easier than 102.8 proof. This is thick and oily and coats the tongue perfectly. Baking spices start to take over the oak and it’s letting the sweet jammy fruits brighten up.

Finish is fairly long and the apple pie returns with a nice kick of spice that eventually gets oaky and a touch drying.

The balance of everything going on in this is damn near perfect ! I absolutely love this and it might be the best Irish I’ve had to date! Up next…Blue Spot!

Last but certainly not least…Blue Spot

Surprisingly, this doesn’t coat the glass with those long sexy legs quite like Gold did. I would have thought being cask strength would be even more viscous. Maybe the Gold was reasonably close to cask strength before its final proofing. Nonetheless, it still appears fairly thick and oily.

On the nose she’s a feisty one. Can’t stick the old schnozzola in there like the others. Once everything calmed down, I got nice dark red fruits and some light butterscotch. There’s a slight earthy, barrel funk to the nose that I really like.
Little bit of citrus punches through as well.

The palate starts with the red fruits and grape nerds with a touch of lemon-lime to brighten them up, but they are still nice and sweet. Caramel syrup on vanilla ice cream follow but then the heat comes in and it’s very noticeable. Knowing what I first got with the nose, I expected the heat up front first but surprisingly it took time to build. I kinda like that. It let me pick out the more subtle notes before the typical cask strength power took over.

The finish wasn’t as long as I thought it would be, but it was long enough to pick out some of the red fruits and a hint of milk chocolate is there as well.

This is really good. I think it would hold its own with Redbreast 12 Cask Strength even though it’s 5 years younger. A few more years in the barrel would push this into the exceptional range, but as-is, it’s still a damn good whiskey! Thanks again @Saoliver for the Twister board flight!
