Maybe it's just my luck, but I think this is one of the most consistent single barrels out there in terms of flavor. Some very subtle variances bottle to bottle, but they're always good and on flavor profile. This one has the banana cream turned up to 11.

I am not a big banana lover, but the flavor profiles of these are amazing. Same goes for apricots and good Seagrass bottles.

Second different barrel my county got this year of this!! I’ve only seen this one other time here and that wa la at least 4 years ago View attachment 1403723

These OF SB BP bottles are some of my favorite!

I am trying to figure out what I want tonight. It might be a Lagavulin kind of evening. At least to start with :)

He’s not ready for that one yet, but
What if I was to say that I think I am? :ROFLMAO:

The weirdest thing happened on Sunday as I was drinking the Benriach Smoky 12 and the Benromach 15…the not so subtle and obvious smoke was much more subtle and not so obvious as compared to the first couple of pours from each. It’s still there but I had to really look for it if that makes any sense. The notes from the sherry and bourbon casks were much more noticeable now. I definitely felt like it could benefit from some more smoke. I don’t know how the 2 peated bottles I have compare to the heavily peated Islay offerings, but I definitely want to push the boundaries of what might suit my tastes.

The resident scotch drinker in my cash game echoed people’s thoughts here with Laga 16 and Oban 14 as no brainers, but he added Ardbeg Uigeadial to the list since he knows my preference for higher proof offerings. All three are readily available here.

What says the brain trust? Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 3 for $190?
Last time I looked, my local store had 5 bottles sitting in a glass case getting dusty. I think the ask was either $180 or $170. One week they had it marked down to $150, and none sold.

Actually, we talked about these a few months ago. Too bad we didn't think of it before DiD. I could have picked one up and hand delivered it.

Word on the street is batch 2 is the weakest. If anyone can find one for $150 or so I’d be interested. I’ve never owned one before and heard they’re solid

I may be a little off on those prices. I checked back in my DMs, and it was the sale price that was $170. It was definitely batch #3.

Apologies if that's been said already but the peat level in Obans is only moderate and not around the same level as Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, etc... Still a good whisky but not a punch of peat.

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Heavily Peated is another good one that’s usually reasonably priced (at least around here).

Please disregard if the post is too nerdy:

The other difference between Oban and some of the Islay peated malts is that Oban sources their peat from the Highlands and most of the Islay malts source their peat from Islay itself. Typically, Islay peat has more of the medicinal/iodine profile and the Highland peat more of the bonfire smoke, earthier.

Port Charlotte, that @Irish recommended (great call btw, Matt!), sources their peat from the Highlands as well, so one can see the difference in profile between the PCs and some of the other Islays.

Diageo, who owns the Port Ellen malting facilities, announced that only their own distilleries will be allowed to use their peated malt. It will be interesting to see what will happen with some of the distilleries who will have to source their peat elsewhere. My guess is it's just a negotiating tactic and nothing will change, but the price.

Please nerd out on whisky, Paulo. I’ve learned a lot from you (and Larry) over the years here.

I concur! I’ve learned quite a bit in a very short period of time from all you enablers  :ROFLMAO:

This is exactly the “nerdy” info I want and look for when I research what I’m gonna spend my money on. I only have two peated scotches currently, both Speyside, and the campfire smoke and earthiness is definitely what I’m getting from them. I really like that even though I think they could use a bit more oomph, but I do quite enjoy it as-is nonetheless .

I appreciate all of the input I’ve received to this point and I’ll continue to listen to others here as I’ve yet to been steered astray.
