The DE is good. I feel it’s a softer/gentler version of the 16yr.

We will be pouring it tomorrow before taking the kids out trick or treating. Most will likely end up in coffee and hot chocolate for the cold evening walk through the neighborhood.

Had big plans to sit out front with the fire pit and a nice bottle and hand out candy. It's gonna be 75°...shorts and something cool to drink will have to suffice. The best laid plans...

Gonna need sooooo much more info for a good rec. what do you like? Will you ever be using it in cocktails? How quickly do you go through a bottle, eg how much bang for your buck do you need? Do you like a higher or lower proof?

There’s many ways to get $300 of value but for someone people that’s a bottle or two and for some it’s five.

If I had $300 and was a bit flexible on MSRP and starting from scratch the following come to mind

Alberta Premium, WT 101 (I like for cocktails), Oban 14, New Riff (something on the cheaper side, makes a great pour for guests), and Barrel Seagrass

Don’t feel like you have to blow thru your budget right away. I’ll assume you’re like most here that enjoy their whiskey neat although there’s nothing wrong with mixed cocktails!

I’d start with these as a few of these were already mentioned…

Old Grandad 114

All 6 of those in my area would set you back $200 and give you some fantastic sippers and most have enough backbone proof wise for a good mixed drink and a flavorful sip by itself!

I tried the JB Winter Reserve and found it a little bitter on the initial bottle chug.

Kinda thin. Kinda toasted, but not much. If not for the toasted note, I'd pass. Worth the $25, but that's it. I'd try it before buying multiples.

I mean, I love the suggestions but at least one bottle of horsey cork might be a nice addition. Its overpriced but still a great pour.
