Happy New Year whiskey drinkers!

Precision? Lol. 10% is ridiculous. More like 2 to 3% at most. Maybe my other glassware should have been used?

Finished another bottle so I couldn't help cracking open a new one, store pick Barrell Rye single barrel:

Fantastic nose, a little hot at first but it calmed down after 10-15 minutes of breathing. Very rich rye and anise notes with some subtle light honey and brown sugar in the background.

I was surprised how light colored this is, given the age, and was worried it be too thin/bright. Not to worrry though, it's got a nice oily mouthfeel. Palate was spicy rye and proof explosion (in a good way) at the onset, but that subsides pretty quick and sweeter tones from the nose kick in, anise and pears and something else I can't quite put my finger on (sour green grape?). As the finish builds, the rye returns and the age comes through with wood/oaky notes - chewy & mellow finish.

Really great bottle at first taste, I'm glad I grabbed it. Once it sits a bit, I'll need to do a head to head comparison with Alberta Premium, I think this will hold up well in comparison, it's a little more mellow but possibly just as complex. TBD.

Anyone know where I can score a Sam Houston 15 (Kentucky batch 5)?

Are there different Sam Houston 15's? I see them all over the place in NY.
Yeah every batch is different. Often the distillery will choose different specialized people to help create the blend for each state.

It’s tricky to know which batches are the best. I know the Kentucky batch 5 is good that’s why I’m after it. Oh and ADHD whiskey helped with the blend too which is fun.

I'll check for you on Wednesday.

The asking price was high at the shop (~200), don't recall the batch though.
Oof. Yeah I’m looking to snag one around $130. It’s too bad they’re overcharging. Thank you for checking for me
