I think you might be doing it wrong.and some Captain's Choice Bay Rum aftershave. :
Many thanks to Roman, @onerand for following up our important DE safety razor shaving discussion at DCS with a gift of several types of blades to try and some Captain's Choice Bay Rum aftershave. :
If you're getting into wet shaving for real, let me know. I'll send you some Mike's Natural Soap. It takes a little bit of a learning curve to whip up a good batch, but is worth the effort. It is the most comfortable shaving soap/cream/jel/oil I have ever tried, and it comes in amazing scents as well.
Requires a good brush and bowl to get the lather right, but so good when you figure it out. I think I tried for about 2 weeks before I was able to get it right.
I'm a veteran of at least 2 months now, chicken.

@PAZ made some of his famous cinnamon bread as gluten free for me (and presumably others) for DCS. When he saw I wasn't able to attend DCS, he shipped some of the gluten free bread to me, and some to my parent's house for them.
He never said a word. It just showed up in the mail one day. This level of thoughtfulness and generosity never ceases to blow me away.
Thanks PAZ!
These guys have sold to me at presale or main sale prices. One of them even took 20 bucks off the price to help with Great Divide beer money. Thanks Bill! That will drop my bar tab to a grand or so!!!

I cheat (surprise!)
For many years, I've used different soaps and a bowl from Crabtree & Evelyn (I'm partial to sandalwood scent). For the last year, I've cheated by topping the solid soaps with a squirt of Edge gel shave, and whipping both up together with my favorite old English pewter-handled silver-tipped badger brush.
For blades, I'm using Dollar Shave Club's four-bladers. They work better for me than anything else available in a drug store, or DSC's more maneuverable twos or overkill sixes.
Haven't tried a modern DE razor in a long time -- might have to...
Look at how quick the chip karma caught up to me - @kmccormick100 just sent me one of my favorite rainbow-striped singles. Can't thank you enough @kmccormick100 - those things are real hard to come by these days! Thanks @upNdown . I appreciate the help with replacing my lost 500 fun nite chip.
I know I have had more PCF members treat me well.
