You mean horrifyingThis is fascinating
are we actually talking about two different things here then? Is there both a powder and a film? Because in the above image the hats and the canes are still yellowed, but they don't show up under the blacklight. Also of note, some yellowed chips have the spready powder and some dont have much.
Case in point:

I am baffled as well. In my experience the cleaning process is the same for both, it almost seems like the ones with powder clean up better (from the yellow).are we actually talking about two different things here then? Same question with your original picture up above. You can definitely tell that the chips which have not been cleaned are a different color than the ones that have been cleaned. But under your black light the dust doesn't show up consistently across the unclean chips.
You underestimate how little I value my time"I actually use a 2 bucket/eraser cleaning method as the yellow gets everywhere in the first clean. So far it takes me on average an hour per barrel."
That means like 5h per rack and 20h for the 4 racks. If you consider the amount of pretty annoying work you need to invest, those chips get more expensive. At first i thought instant buy, but i am really not into rubbing chips for 3 workdays.
But that doesn't explain the discoloration on the Stardust chips. Maybe were dealing with two problems: chip dust and an integral problem with the light pink color breaking down over time.I am baffled as well. Could it be chip dust (that happens to be degraded light pink)? In my barrel pic of the dirty chips you can see the one barrel that does not show the dust in black light (I sorted these chips out btw, they were mixed in with the rest).
I think it is the same problem. Discoloration of the chip and discoloration of the chip dust. But that doesn't explain the discoloration on the Stardust chips. Maybe were dealing with two problems: chip dust and an integral problem with the light pink color breaking down over time.
That's fair. So it's discoloration of the chip dust and of the chip itself. The dust should be straightforward to clean off. The discoloration, caused by the oily residue, probably makes it harder though.I think it is the same problem. Discoloration of the chip and discoloration of the chip dust.
When you look at the stardust chips it looks like the face of the chip was cleaned, the yellow is just in the mold. Similar to the H&Cs and edges on my chips.
I expect there may be ways to do it faster. There is also nothing to say you have to get all the yellow off. A swipe with the magic eraser would likely get all of the chip dust/loose part off - your final chip would just be yellower (and some of the ones I started with are as I didnt scrub enough)."I actually use a 2 bucket/eraser cleaning method as the yellow gets everywhere in the first clean. Yes, I use Dawn in the soapy water that I clean with.Might be a dumb question but has anyone tried dawn?
Chuck Norris just stares at them and it comes off.Yes, I use Dawn in the soapy water that I clean with.
This is actually an interesting idea. Maybe just for a quick washHas anyone put chips in a dishwasher or is dishwasher detergent too strong to submit chips to?

I used TSP in the ultrasonic cleaner, no luck.Has anyone tried TSP on the chips??
Have you tried oxi clean?I used TSP in the ultrasonic cleaner, no luck.
I havent, I will pick some up and tryHave you tried oxi clean?
I have 2 feelings on hydrogen peroxide... 1. If the film is a bacteria it will eat 2. It will fade the colors
@Goldfish You reckon your method would do the trick on this barrel? Here are a couple of images of the chips. Thanks @grantc54 for all of the images and your thoughts on cleaning.
The barrel shows the worst of the warping issues
