Are the spots on the Stardust T500 Light pink? This pic is from @realcdn and seems to show yellowing on the T500 spots.

Anyone else with these chips who can check?

my best guess is it’s associated with vibrant colors... The pink frac relabel looks great. For .60/chip I’m excited.

Also of note, some yellowed chips have the spready powder and some dont have much.

Case in point:

are we actually talking about two different things here then? Is there both a powder and a film? Because in the above image the hats and the canes are still yellowed, but they don't show up under the blacklight.

Same question with your original picture up above. You can definitely tell that the chips which have not been cleaned are a different color than the ones that have been cleaned. But under your black light the dust doesn't show up consistently across the unclean chips.

I am baffled as well. In my experience the cleaning process is the same for both, it almost seems like the ones with powder clean up better (from the yellow).

Could it be chip dust (that happens to be degraded light pink)? In my barrel pic of the dirty chips you can see the one barrel that does not show the dust in black light (I sorted these chips out btw, they were mixed in with the rest).

"I actually use a 2 bucket/eraser cleaning method as the yellow gets everywhere in the first clean. So far it takes me on average an hour per barrel."

That means like 5h per rack and 20h for the 4 racks. If you consider the amount of pretty annoying work you need to invest, those chips get more expensive. At first i thought instant buy, but i am really not into rubbing chips for 3 workdays.

You underestimate how little I value my time

But that doesn't explain the discoloration on the Stardust chips. Maybe were dealing with two problems: chip dust and an integral problem with the light pink color breaking down over time.

I checked some of my HSI S25's, and I didn't get any yellow off of them when I wiped them with a rag.

I think it is the same problem. Discoloration of the chip and discoloration of the chip dust.

When you look at the stardust chips it looks like the face of the chip was cleaned, the yellow is just in the mold. Similar to the H&Cs and edges on my chips.

That's fair. So it's discoloration of the chip dust and of the chip itself. The dust should be straightforward to clean off. The discoloration, caused by the oily residue, probably makes it harder though.

On the stardust chip it's only the light colored pink that seems to have the problem. The higher contrast pink doesn't seem to suffer from it.

I expect there may be ways to do it faster. There is also nothing to say you have to get all the yellow off. A swipe with the magic eraser would likely get all of the chip dust/loose part off - your final chip would just be yellower (and some of the ones I started with are as I didnt scrub enough).

Personally I think it adds character and kind of goes with the darker off-white/plum $1s. Kind of like an old west theme.

Also the super cleaned chips look amazing with the $1a chips.

I used TSP in the ultrasonic cleaner, no luck.
Have you tried oxi clean?
I have 2 feelings on hydrogen peroxide... 1. If the film is a bacteria it will eat it* 2. It will fade the colors

Here are a couple of images of the chips. Thanks @grantc54 for all of the images and your thoughts on cleaning.

The barrel shows the worst of the warping issues

Jim
@Goldfish You reckon your method would do the trick on this barrel?

Also, @mattross1313 — you going to be trying for any of these? If so, might be worth us sharing shipping?

Alright people. Did we decide if the yellow stuff will auto return over time?

Scrub them once, shame on me.
Scrub them every 6 months...

Still a very very very good deal for mint chips, even if they are chameleons....

If anyone in Canada is picking some up, I'd take a couple barrels, pay for rhr re-ship, and flip ya a few dollars to offset your shipping cost from TCR.
