is there one chip in that barrel that hadnt reacted? or one you had cleaned earlier?
Yes, the one chip in the first barrel I did a preliminary clean on. I left it in as I wanted to finish it off and felt it helped show the colour difference between the yellowed and the cleaned.is there one chip in that barrel that hadnt reacted? or one you had cleaned earlier?
Would one of those 2 sided sponges for kitchen sinks work or be to abrasive to useYes, Dawn dish soap.
I dont think it would have the necessary abrasion that the magic eraser is proven to have.Would one of those 2 sided sponges for kitchen sinks work or be to abrasive to use
Even if you used the hard pad side ?I dont think it would have the necessary abrasion that the magic eraser is proven to have.
Unfortunately sharp edge chips eat magic erasers.
I'd think it would be too abrasive. I dont want to start taking off too much material. As it stands most of what comes off is yellow, taking off pink is bad.Even if you used the hard pad side ?
Have you tired these?I'd think it would be too abrasive. I dont want to start taking off too much material. As it stands most of what comes off is yellow, taking off pink is bad.
Has anyone tried using 3000 or 5000 grit sandpaper instead of magic eraser?Have you tired these?View attachment 624484
Not necessarily with these, but in general Chip cleaning using a ME
I am also interested in this. From whats been shared so far it appears the reacted material needs to be physically removed from the chip. If there was a chemical solution to assist in that removal it would be a game changer.I'm still interested if a short soak in OxyClean would do much to the yellow stuff.
I soak stuff in laundry detergent with oxi overnight if it’s nastyI am also interested in this. From whats been shared so far it appears the reacted material needs to be physically removed from the chip. If there was a chemical solution to assist in that removal it would be a game changer.
Agreed. Oil will bring back some if not all the color, but that depends on the chip color and soak duration. @upNdown is correct in the stern warning, I should've stressed this...will edit above post.NOW IS THE TIME WHEN WE WARN PEOPLE THAT OXYCLEAN WILL FADE YOUR CHIPS.
Variables matter, like concentration and soak duration, so test carefully before soaking a whole rack.
It looks like a pretty high percentage. My guess would be that 150 might not get you there? Is there a rough ratio of what percentage of the chips are warped? Just trying to figure out if I need to buy 150 to end up with one good rack.
Looks like a lot of cheap chips are going to hit the secondary market. Buy four racks, cull out a good one, sell off the rest.It looks like a pretty high percentage. My guess would be that 150 might not get you there?

Generally heat and sunlight coincideInteresting that the chips with the worst warping, also suffer from this color issue. I wonder if the two issues are connected.
Yes. And maybe we should keep in mind that these things were transported in oil drums. It doesn’t explain why the rest of the HSI chips are normal or why other recent Paulson pinks have done the same yellowing, but who knows what combination of factors are at playGenerally heat and sunlight coincide
Then why are these the only chips from all the variations to have it? Plus, look at the previous posts where the inlay is removed. It’s yellow underneath.I do not believe the yellowing is related to light pink. This is some kind of residue , if we could only identify it.
interesting point about the removed inlayThen why are these the only chips from all the variations to have it? Plus, look at the previous posts where the inlay is removed. It’s yellow underneath.
That yellow is coming from the inside out.
Do we know roughly when these chips were made? It may be the case where it takes a long time to come back.My first toughts also went to residue or mold...but after seeing other chips (also THC without spots) that this is a light pink pigment issue.
But if it comes from the inside...then it will not stop after one cleaning, so temp fix.
How temp is key here
