Tangiers and the Quest for a Tina Hybrid Faux Inlay (5 Viewers)

I love V7! I notice the 5¢ chip has a black "LAS VEGAS, NEV" while the others are all red. Were you doing a side-by-side comparison of red versus black trying to decide which you like better, and just forgot to change it back to red? Just curious. You know I've already thrown my vote with the "paint it black" crowd... I think it just makes the red denoms stand out more, which is obviously a good thing.
Good catch, artifact of too many changes/tests.. but as with anything could still be convinced otherwise. I just really like the look of the red, but agree that the black makes the denoms pop more.

But yeah, I think I'm finally at the point where I'm personally ready to just pull the trigger on the first sample set and gauge everything in-person. Hopefully the color wheels arrive soon!

I'm no designer, although I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. In all seriousness, I've done enough reading on here about designs that I am confident in saying you may be at that point where to really finalize anything you need to hold it in hand. Seeing it on a screen is one thing, but having it in front of you just hits different.

BTW, I'M IN

I just took another look at V7 again and noticed that the new inlay for the $1 is pretty similar to that of the $1,000 (and is actually fairly similar to the $25 inlay as well). It seems like the only real difference is that the $1 inlay has more rounded edges whereas the $1,000 has more straight pointed edges. And then we have this same scenario with the hexagon inlays on the 25¢ and $500 chips.

I understand your thinking here since the rounded vs pointed outsides obviously do make them a tiny bit different. Plus I agree that it's likely these 4 chips would never be on the felt at the same time since two are part of a cash set and the other two are part of a tourney set. But what are your thoughts with respect to the idea from @allforcharity a while back about using either an octagon or dodecagon inlay? Or there's also the shape below, which I don't even know what the heck it's called LOL. And I also didn't hate the saw shaped inlay that you formerly had on the $1.00 (although I could absolutely understand changing that saw to be on some higher denom instead of it being on the $1.00). In any event, it seems like there are enough inlay shapes out there that you could theoretically have every one be radically different rather than semi-repeating a couple of them. The idea of every single chip having a completely different inlay shape and edgespots is really enticing (at least to me).

Nice work as always @Cratty

I understand wanting to stay away from a circle inlay, and I appreciate the inspiration from the Stardust $1.

Personally I like the lower denominations to be a more simple design. How about something like this? A circle meets a star. Not really a fan of of the limp star lol. If you're going to go Stardust star, go star all the way and change the $25 to something else. Just my 2 cents

Couple variations for the 1 just to get thoughts as an alt to the soft star:
1 - (like personally the best, but pretty close to $25)

I don't know why, but something about 4 i like. 1 is good also, but there is something about 4

Sorry to throw a wrench in this...
I just noticed there's two different logos in the film. One is on the wall outside the casino which I mentioned earlier, and there's a different one on the large sign above the casino. Do you prefer the logo from the sign better?

Yeah, I've been thinking on that a lot - definitely have seen mixed camels (and even the tangiers font). For that reason I leaned toward some "freedom" with the camel itself, but could swap out.

Great work! This is fantastic project and I am following with interest. A couple suggestions:
  • I'm with you on the $1.00. I like the zeros. For consistency, I would add the zeros to $5.00 too and then leave them off $25 and up.
  • I am in team black "LV, NV" but have you tried dark red? Might give you the look you are going for and still let the denom pop.
  • Reminding you of the "four notch" and "four points" inlay options:

I think I can get black to work if I move away from the bold font. I'm OK with the latter version on the $1 (example below showing the variations).

Thanks for the other inlay reminders, haven't found a perfect fit for those but good consideration. I also don't mind the thought about extending the 00 to the $5... let me see.

Not only does that change away from the bold font help the denomination pop out more, but I also think it helps the Tangiers and the camel pop out more as well. And those are of course both very good things. In fact, I don't think I even realized this until you just made that change... but between the bold red Las Vegas, Nev. and the big bold red denoms I now feel like my vision had previously been drawn more to the bottom half of the inlays in all of the earlier versions. But with this change the top half with the name and logo finally becomes more prominent. And, at least in my humble opinion, that's what we really want to draw eyes to. After all, the most fun thing about this set is that it's the Tangiers... so we certainly don't want to draw attention away from that. Bravo on the change!!!

White chip 100k at least? Too good for a NCV chip! Thinking of, maybe it should say No Cash Value if you stick with it.
I'm good to make a $100k denom that can be used on the white chip.

Fortunately the NCV inlay, given a circle, could go on any chip. Personally want to order it on the white, but good area to allow some flexibility.

I'd be OK with an alt for the initial group buy (assuming/hoping we make it there), and the one that is selected the most becomes the main offer thereafter for later buys.. Mostly just because I'd personally lean toward buying the below for my set, ha.

Example lineup w/ v1

Love just about everything as it is now... one request though that someone else previously mentioned as well. Is there any way to swap the color of the .25 chip with either the .5 chip or the 1000 chip? The orange is too close to the $5 red chip and those chips will be on the felt at the same time. I know that there are players that have a hard time with orange and red next to each other. The .5 grey chip would be a good swap and if the orange was moved to the .5 spot, you don't usually see micro stakes and $5 felted at the same time. The yellow 1000 is another decent frac color.

Yeah, I'm going to do quite a bit of testing of that with my initial samples set, and will likely do a couple orange variants for that reason too. But if it seems like it will dirty stack or cause confusion, I'll rerack.

Pulled out my Dunes orange/red, think this may work well (just need to go a bit lighter on the base orange). Very clear even in low lights.
