The cheap whiskey thread (2 Viewers)

This shouldn't be in the cheap bourbon thread btw.

Do we have a price point for "cheap"?

I always have Bulleit Rye on hand, usually the 1.75 which goes for $48 around these parts.

I've got an old bottle of Canadian Club on my bar too. It was left here by a family member years ago and I don't think I've ever opened it. :ROFLMAO:

On a good day the Bulleit 1.75s here are $28-35 so I’d consider it cheap. Bulleit rye was my go to for a long time, but has been upstaged by some others

Bulliet Rye is one of my favorite daily drinkers. I paid $42 per bottle for the 1.75 bottle at the military store. Normally it is $48 around here. I would buy it by the case at $28!!!

Bulleit Rye and Bourbon are $26.99 everyday at my local Target!

Wow. $28 is what I pay for a 750. It's almost worthwhile to fly out, play at Stones, and bring a couple cases home with me. :D

I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that my home game crew can go through a liter of whiskey in one session.

I'm taking one for the team tonight, guys. I cracked open that bottle of Canadian Club and I'm having a small bit right now.

Nose: Almost non-existent. A tiny hint of honey mostly masked by alcohol, and I really have to get my nose in there to smell even that.

Palate: A little bit of honey and maple up front, then a strong boozy burn. This stuff is 100 proof, after all.

Finish: A little of the honey remains but it's mostly burn.

While it's not the worst whiskey I've ever had, it's not great. I'll probably put it out for mixing at my next party or home game.

Wait—I missed the 1.75! And I was bragging about my 750. :(

"Cheap" is relative, I guess. But IMO, the best buy in all of whiskydom is the Ron Zacapa Centenario 23, at ~$35 a bottle.

Extremely smooth and tasty, with absolutely nothing added. I think I'll have some now... :cool

I need to try this. But does rum qualify for whiskydom? :sneaky:

This bottle belongs in this thread.

Scotch? Monkey Shoulder and Dewar's 12 Year are my bargain go-tos. Suntory (Japanese Whisky) tastes like scotch and is very good as well.

Canadian Whiskey? Crown Royal. At $25, why are we even discussing this?

Bourbon? 1792 Small Batch and Maker's Mark.

Technically, no, since it's not made from grain mash. But when you drink things neat, it's a direct competitor to Bourbon, Scotch, Cognac, Armagnac, etc., and there's no other convenient term to lump them all together.

yikes. 10 dollars more a bottle than what I pay. This is my go to drink. I recently acquired a few of their 135 proof bottles. First bourbon that I've needed to add a touch of water.

$28.99 would be a really good price for 1.75L. Unless you were saying that it is only $10 more than what you pay for 750ml? Either way, this is a very decent go to bourbon.

Blasphemy!!!

Was your account hacked, Larry?

I think I was meant for cheap whiskey. I really enjoy most bourbons that I encounter, and it is rare for me to like one of the expensive ones much more than the cheap ones. I think I actually prefer an 80 proof bourbon over a stronger one for the most part. Then again after jogging last night I drank an ice cold Rolling Rock that came from a $13.99 30 pack, and felt like I was in beer paradise. I guess I am a cheap date. Over the weekend on a getaway with friends I enjoyed some Jim Beam Black, and I wasn't afraid to mix some with Coke!

I blame it on Florida living -- rum on the lanai in the sunshine before dinner; Scotch on the lanai for the sunset and the "Magritte look" over the lake after dinner.

Gotta be an equal-opportunity drinker, Paolo!

If you’re paying $28.99 for 1.75L bottles please let me know where, I’ll buy a few cases for the bunker.
