The cheap whiskey thread (2 Viewers)

I'm a big Eagle Rare fan, but getting hard to find. I have my parent's bring it from Wisconsin for around $25 a bottle depending on the store that stocks it. Can't find it in Ohio - thanks OHLC!

Picked up Elijah Craig Small Batch at Walmart yesterday. $27 and change. My new favorite! Just a bit hot for me straight, so I add a little water.

So my nearby grocery store just remodeled, and greatly expanded the liquor section. Added some new cheap whiskeys that have never been available locally: Four Roses, Russels 10 Year, 1792 Small Batch, and Buffalo Trace. Plus, likely more to come.

I like all of those. Especially the 1792 and buffalo trace

Buffalo Trace for under $25 is impossible to beat in my book.

This is my favorite bourbon under 30 bucks. I almost always have a bottle on hand. It has the perfect balance of flavor and heat. I drink it neat all day long. Have you had the barrel proof EC? The 124 and the 135 proofs are fantastic. The 135 needs an ice cube :)

135?! Yikes! :)

I haven’t seen it around here, but I’ll keep an eye out, for sure.

I'll have to try some E Craig.
Usually for inexpensive bourbon I grab Jim Beam Black.

I mentioned that I was out of whiskey yesterday, so my lovely wife stopped by the liquor aisle at Target to pick some up. She knew I like Elijah Craig, but they don't carry it, and she couldn't remember if I liked Bulleit Rye or Bourbon, so she came home empty-handed. I'm just pleased that she knows anything about my whiskey preferences. :D

What she doesn't know is that the wrong whiskey is ALWAYS better then no whiskey.

You guys need to try a handle of Kirkland Rye for $18. Best bargain I’ve found so far.

That’s the Costco brand, right? We don’t have one locally, but my sister works for Costco. I’ll have her grab a bottle.

Wow, I'm used to 90+ proof, but this is 80. Surprised how mild it is. But it's very pleasant.

Which is weird, since any whiskey was too strong for me 2 years ago. :D

It has a great flavor. It is a tad light. We always have a bottle on hand because my wife uses it as a mixer and its something that I can drink in a pinch. This is one of @mike32 favorite bottles

Yeah but I also like Jim Beam. I remember back around 2000 the first time I ever had Maker's Mark. That was pure luxury to me as a drinker of Jim Beam, Old Crow (my Grandpa's favorite), and Old Grand Dad. I guess because of family traditions I was bourbon before bourbon was cool. You may remember my ubiquitous bottle of Evan Williams in my basement when you first started playing poker at my house Bill. I think you were a Tequila guy back then.

Four Roses (basic) and Jim Beam (basic) are the only ones widely available in Greek bars and liquor stores, and, among the two, I vote for the former.
Maker's Mark can be found too, at possibly annoying prices.
Woodford Reserve is even more expensive, but up there you could find some value for the money.
