This makes me Happy and Sad at the same time. We’ve signed my 6YO son for Learn to Play Hockey which brings me great joy when I see him on the ice Learning to skate. However, being a Die Hard NY Rangers fan I hate the NJ Devils. Living where I live in Central Jersey there are no NY Rangers rinks close to us so I signed him up for the Devils. I’m torn and for once I can’t boo the Devils even though it’s my first instinct.

The article is a lie. I was into dinosaurs :)

The title is somewhat misleading... The article itself suggests 'intense interests' are the sign of intelligence, not just intense interest in dinosaurs. The only reference specific to dinosaurs was the mention that the way children study dinosaurs helps them develop strategies to tackle problems throughout their lives. Maybe the study mentioned in the article is more dinosaur-specific.

The article does short-change the topic. The study itself states "the acquisition of semantic knowledge on topics such as dinosaurs, birds, and even artificial domains such as Pokemon."

Little doubt this would also apply to poker chip knowledge, provided you could find enough children that with the ability to identify chips by edgespots to include in a study.

Getting my wife back!

She was gone for three weeks visiting her Mum 10,000 miles away. I had to play mom and dad working full time and running up and down taking the kids to karate, kumon, birthday parties, band concerts etc. I survived but it was exhausting - I don't know how single parents do it! I have a huge new-found respect for them.

We took the kids to the Metroparks on Saturday. On the drive there they asked if there was a playground and swings. We explained it’s not that kind of park. They got to play in the river and skip rocks. We even saw a bald eagle.

On the way back to the car my oldest said that was the best park she’s been to! :)
