It's funny you say that because I actually did have a snake in that very canoe one time that I did not discover until I was out on the lake. I almost did flip the canoe but I managed to flip the garter snake into the water with my paddle. I also had mice run out at me several times over the years, they ended up swimming for shore as well. The only time I did flip the canoe I was by myself and damn if I wasn't over served out there on that former gravel pit.Snake next to son's left foot, BTW. Looks like a constrictor. And by the coloring, I'd say it was poisonous.
