This happened to me and I felt like such a chump afterwards.

I would have considered giving away nicer stuff for my 10K if I didn't also think this.
Just bumping this to express my disappointment that a similar event just occurred just in the last couple of days. Sold some dealer buttons at a loss to me and saw a handful of the same dealer buttons listed on eBay for 3x the amount I sold them for.

I'm not going to out the person unless they choose to defend their actions in response, but in case you are reading this, shame on you. You know who you are.

It seems, at least to me, that the outrage came from how the whole deal unwound, and, the outrageous increase in pricing. I've only been on here a short time, but, I haven't seen anything this egregious, yet.

When you sell something put a post at the end before you close it detailing the amount sold for and to who.
Or at least quit deleting the prices and items when sold.
Something like this would help someone do a search on sold items before they buy something if they had questions.

We need some early adopters, high volume sellers, and lighthouse members to do it. It's so rare that a sale sold privately or pm gets information added.

I did exactly that when I sold my PCAs.

Hey man I'm sorry to hear that, that's frustrating. Thanks for all your giveaways and sales.

So, you can be a real ass, but you can’t be an ass to the ass for being an ass…..

This type of behavior may be a contributing factor as to why leaded THC rarely shows up in the classifieds and are sold/traded privately.

If I am an owner of a quality THC set, that I worked hard to build over the years, I definitely would prefer that it stay on PCF with someone that will enjoy it rather than flip it off site.

Rules apply, except when they don’t.

We can’t threadcrap or derail, except looking at Mustards last thread, apparently we can now?

We can’t profit from chips, except when we can. And you will all subjectively pick what that details.

People can have wanted ads for years for chips that are you in your closet that won’t be used, except for trade bait.

I used to tote the “community” cross across my back to the point of being banned. It became a lot easier to coexist peacefully when I realized that everyone here doublespeak’s and community exists almost exclusively in 1) non classifieds and 2) transactions between irl friends and cliques.
@BarrieJ3,
A tip of the hat to you for as you put it, “toting the community cross”.
You were relentless in your passion of it and I commend you for your efforts then, it was FUCKING AWESOME seeing you on the front lines.

As I think I mentioned in one of our conversations away from here and during your ban, it comes down to tactics sometimes. In the heat of battle, we can sometimes take things to levels that they may not need to be takin to.

But from one passionate chipper to another, I commend you for then and my hat always off to you for going there then.
For whatever it’s worth,
CHEERS to you for those days. :cool

You are 100% correct!

This is not easy but I think the best way and maybe the only way is for more experienced members to add a heart emoji to sales that look good and skip or put angry emoji on sales that look bad. Explain to the new guys in the welcome section that emojis are good indicator of what kind of deal it is. A great deal will have lots of hearts and an angry deal will have lot of anger emojis. That way sellers also get really quick feedback if they are doing something "wrong"

If a seller gets mad and blocks and active "emoji giver" he also loses the ability to get hearts on good sales...

Who cares about mustard. We're drowning a guy over flipping mustard solids, but the same energy isn't found anywhere else for chips that actually matter.

I'm still pretty zenned out and not quite full on whining, but it's difficult to swallow to have Wanted Ads for hot stamped $5s for years.

And in those years, repeatedly watch new chippers or random folks get them. Only for them to flip them within a year for double the price. I watched it happen over and over and over again.

It's happening right now in the classifieds. More racks of hot stamp $5s that I would have loved to place in my Hot Stamp set, now nearly doubled in price in 6 months. I'm not attacking the seller, I don't know the whole story, maybe he crazy overpaid for other racks and is trying to get even, who knows.

But at the end of the day, it's not even trying to build amazing rare sets. Just trying to build a simple, HS set for years, as an active chipper, and you can't do it.

BTW this helps absolutely nobody because we don’t know if who we’re transacting with is a flipper or not.

Who cares about mustard.
Mustard affects all of us. It’s the ground seed that makes the world go ‘round.
We're drowning a guy over flipping mustard solids,
We hadn’t thought of that - novel idea tho - can we even do that?
but the same energy isn't found anywhere else for chips that actually matter.
So flippers are fine as long as the chips don’t really matter and you’re the arbiter of “matter”.
I'm still pretty zenned out
Totally dude, me too.

Why would you swallow a Want Ad? I wouldn’t even print it out. You know what tho? If you print it out and you wanted to eat it, I know a condiment that would help it go down and taste might good!
And in those years, repeatedly watch new chippers or random folks get them.
GOD DAMN THOSE NEW RANDOM PEOPLE! WHO LET THEM LOGIN? TOMMY - YOU LEFT THE DRAWBRIDGE DOWN AGAIN!
Only for them to flip them within a year for double the price. I watched it happen over and over and over again.

NO! THE HORROR!

That’s the chip economy dude.

Probably just overextended.

Chip buying is often just being at the right place at the right time. Some guys fly across the country to sit on a porch silently hoping to extract chips from a collection.

A grizzled chip vet of a whole 4.5 years is no more entitled to chips than new chippers and 'random' folks.

I think you noted that you've sold ~100,000 chips? Seems like you've had plenty of opportunity over the years to acquire pretty much anything you wanted. I think you'll eventually get your hotstamped $5s. Just got to be patient. Or sidle up to an old guy on a porch. A handy may or may not be required to seal the deal.

I mean, I've fucked up outgoing shipments, I've ran several GBs and brought several large purchases to forum at cost, I've been permabanned and reinstated, I'm a meetup host.

I don't know if length of membership has anything to do with it, but I'd say ignoring length of time, I'm tenured enough.

And I wouldn't quite use the word entitled, however, those same hotstamp $5s that people keep hooking people up with keep ended up in the classifieds for much more than they sold. Where as they could have completed a set years in the making. I'm not saying that I'm entitled, but we reap what we sow.

I sold off the rest of the hot stamp set, wasn't meant to be. Funnily enough, shame on me, I should've done research and hooked up the wrong people with my own chips as well.

Welcome to PCF.

Hmmm, just noticed that - thanks, I probably wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. I think know exactly how much those were sold for…

Ask me how I know….

And there's the issue. We don't need to berate the guy, we don't need to crucify him, he doesn't need banned, his thread doesn't need filled with BS memes and taken over.

But he is a well known member, with a high post rate, who people engage with. I will continue to enjoy his pr0n and posts and all of that. I would love to meet him at any meetups, buy him a drink, whatever.

But, and this is without knowing the full story on the rest of the chips listed and his current life and all that, unless something comes to light I won't be selling him anything or engage with him in the classifieds.

There should be a database that you should be able to enter:
June 2022 sold 200 x Bonanza Club $5 (Virginia City) @ $350 per rack to XYZ
April 2023 200 x Bonzana Club $5 (Virignia City) listed @ $650 per rack listing here (linked)

Again nothing negative, and if @'ed chipper wants to disclose something - "hey mate, I overpaid on other chips in the listing and trying to break even" awesome.

But everyone's too worried about mustard chips and dogpiling to actually look around as to what their friends are doing and actually trying to solve the issue at hand.

There's alot of hypocrisy with this place. I don't think it's unusual for people to overlook behaviour of their friends. That's just human nature.

But objectively, why does supposed rationale behind a flip have any meaning? The end result is the same. Short term ownership causing a significant increase in pricing.

One justification offered by an individual may seem reasonable for one member but not another.

"Hi, I sold for 200% more because I have a drug habit that I can't control." Would you be ok with that?

Or

"Hi, I'm profiteering because market prices and I'm forced to do it. If I give someone a deal I'm going to feel used." Okay with this?

What's really annoying is people tiptoeing around names. Just hinting at who the flippers are. Some of us don't scour the classified ads 24/7 so we have no clue who you're all hinting about.

Name names! You can call someone out respectfully without name calling or being derogatory. List the facts and only the facts.

Problem won't go away if folks continue to just whisper, hint, or wink at each other. Let the rest of us in on your secrets.

If the problem of flipping is to go away it has to be done publicly.

If folks are not willing to point things out then don't expect the problem to magically resolve itself.

YES! The one that drives me crazy is when people say they’re doing it for charity. Even if they actually are, if we really believe that flipping is bad for the hobby, then why should we be damaging the hobby in the name of charity?
Or the guys who justify a flip because they need more money to buy the chips they really want. Again, if we think flipping is bad for the hobby, then funneling the money back into the hobby isn’t any better than blowing it in coke. In fact it might be worse, if you’re overpaying for your new chips.

I'm truly at peace with whatever we choose. I'm just asking folks to choose.

Either we have a problem and lets solve it, or everyone needs to just shhh.

Because if we don't like a new member buying chips and trying to flip publicly in the same thread, BUT we're okay with the less known avenue of pming for chips and turning around to double it 6 months later - then it's not flipping without creating value that upsets people, it's getting caught or not flipping in the right way.

As to why we don't call people out? Who wants to look like "that guy"? Look, here's the thread https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/turnkey-thc-hot-stamp-cash-set.104404/.

Again I'm not trying to hang the guy up. The $5s were bought for $350. Now they're $650. NOTHING wrong with that, not one bit, noone should be grabbing a pitchfork - one classified listing doesn't having anything to do with someone's character. Sell them how you would like. But if someone PMs someone asking for chips, and then sells in 10 months for double the price, I'm not likely to hook him up again. And that shouldn't be a crazy sentiment.

BUT, at the same time, I don't think that I should be the one to call things out. I don't think *anyone* should be the one to call things out. It's negative, it sucks, and no matter what eventually it will turn bad.

The more it's mulled over, the less options I think there are. A log, database, etc. just wouldn't work - too much room for human error and emotion.

The only solution I think that could possibly work would be Library Cards, physical or catalogued. Date, chips, price, buyer/seller, unique ID # per rack. It's not difficult to setup and easy to maintain. You'll find many hobbies/industries have something similar, in fact there were quite a few people who did something similar with music and local records and such - precursors to naptser and file sharing.

If we weren't actually trying to solve something and just having internet fun complaining, that's my bad.
If we're looking for solutions, we can socially engineer them.

The longer I'm here, the more I agree with Admin that noone should have a public say on a classified thread, and the more I agree with mod David. If we don't care to implement a solution, than we should all be quiet and "chip on".

Appreciate you pointing out the thread.

And that's all I mean by a callout. Point to a thread with an FYI about original price and date. I don't need to see rationale.

I'm like you. I'd have no problem enjoying his post content or even meeting and playing cards with that guy and hanging out. But yeah, knowing the flip that's taking place, I'm not going to buy or sell from him. I'm not going to berate him or try to engage negatively with him. I'm simply going to make a note and be done with it.

The TLDRs need to be at the start of all posts.

I can’t make it past first paragraph.
