Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (10 Viewers)

Folding poker tables and using dice chips should go hand in hand. Expensive poker chips should never be allowed to be used on a folding table. Add that only paper playing cards should be used on a folding table.

I would own a dedicated poker table if my living space had room for it. The folding poker table is a concession to the fact that I can't fit a full size poker table in my space without massive compromise.

Agree to disagree

Ya I mean in this photo and maybe just this example it’s very hard to see the indent of the original stamp but in most other examples (including the others shared) you can see the outlines behind/under the new stamp which I don’t think looks great.

Oh good lord. I don’t care if a guy has a folding table or an even a roll out mat, as long as he’s playing poker with his chips.

Another look and comparison. And photos magnify the look of the old stamp more than it is in person. I’m choosing this restoration any day over milling. But of course many don’t appreciate hot stamps in general so I get it. And I’ll agree, not all chips are likely ideal for restamping

I’m definitely finding it more compelling by a wide wide margin as a restoration of the original stamp (as you imply and the photos appear) than as stamping something different over a previously stamped chip.

I did play a game a few months ago with dice chips on a wooden table. The host's choices of denoms were 5c/25c/50c/$1. I wish we had better denoms than more than we had a better table.

I'm kidding..I have nothing against a folding table...It's about the topic of this thread, being controversial ;)
I play on a friends folding table, he uses plastic cards, and casino style poker chips. We all have a great time.

I’ve only seen one example IRL but restamped chips are not a great thing to me.

They look so messy when all our alternative methods for recycling chips have such a professional end result.

Curious how controversial this is because I think there may actually only be a minority who support/appreciate them but I’m just not sold that it should become a common option
I'm on the fence on this one. I have a hot stamp set that I would like to expand, and I have the chips to do it, but they have other stamps on them, mostly starbursts, but also some chip with monograms and denoms. I've talked with Josh about it, but I'm not yet convinced that I will be happy with the results. Most of the examples I've seen show the old stamp behind the new stamp, even after having the foil cleaned up. It's a tough decision. The alternative is to mill them and relabel, using color matching backgrounds with a faux foil hot stamp print. I'm still trying to decide.

Unless this is some voodoo photography, this looks like an exception to the rule. This is one of the few I've seen where you can't easily make out the old stamp under the new stamp.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this was posted as a joke for reaction. Anyone who truly believes this is an elitist snob. Lots of us chip collectors don't have the space to dedicate to a full time poker table.

Just introduce one simple rule:

"50c chips only play as blinds or all-ins."

50c chips are the way of the future in low-stakes games. Just say no to quarters.
Your first statement is wise. Your second is offense to cheap bastards like me.
Quarters forever!
(Not to mention there are so many colorful hot stamped quarters from Nevada and elsewhere, why would you want to relegate them to museum status?)

It was indeed done for just that.. a controversial thread demanded such..I play on many such tables at friends that don't have room for a dedicated table. They own nice chips and top of line cards. One such table has to be propped in the middle so it doesn't sag because the cables are stretched. Makes no difference to the game of poker, which we all love to play.

No museum status for me -- 25c chips are great for a 2/4 or 3/6 limit game. Nine racks of quarters and a rack of redbirds. All Vegas hot pink hotstamps is the nutz.

Do people actually play 4 chip 8 chip or are you just tilting me further and further? Because if a later street is capped, you’d be pushing out what, 64 chips?

Don't care about the chips or folding table, but goddamn I hate pre-dealing those cards, especially with paper cards. So easy to mark, even by accident!

Congrats on the check marks. Lol What is the green chip worth again????
Did the 78 T/A have a GM built in 8-track player like my 77 T/A on the console in front of the Hurst 4 speed shifter. Maybe the 78 was the first year for the cassette player.

Looks like my controversial post on folding tables, done in jest, has touched raw nerves on some...others of course could see that it was in jest and have fun with it.
I also think tables with LED lights is overkill
well....Except on my table.
