Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (12 Viewers)

I think "fantasy" "custom" and "NAGB" generally mean three distinct things.

Fantasy being the chip lines that Paulson produced not tied to a casino (Pharaoh's, CDIs, Classics, Noirs, etc.)
Custom being ASM/CPC sets or Paulson/TRK relabel sets
NAGB being the various boat/SB/RPC chips that were produced in quantity but are not formally produced fantasy chips as noted above.
What would happen if one of the NAGB orders specifically featured a fantasy inlay that was subsequently relabeled with a TRK inlay?

Jack Detroit and Cincinnati chips are ugly and poorly designed.
I grew up near Cincinnati, so when I heard that Jack Cincinnati chips were going to be available, I really wanted a set.

Then I saw them.

I hate to hate on them because I know many here love them, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy a set in spite of multiple opportunities to do so.

12/17/16 is the perfect starting stack for a $.25/$.50 game.
Start with 20/20/15 (or 20/40/11) until you get a rack or so of quarters on the table.
Then go 0/20/16 or 0/40/12 until you have enough dollars (2-3 racks).
Then do all your rebuys in $5s and $20s/$25s.
Players will make change as they need it.

You're welcome.

Oh hell yes! But it's not even about more chips - it's just so much easier for the banker to grab barrels from a rack for buy-ins, then let players make change as needed during the game.

I've been banking this way for years. It's faster, less error-prone, and I don't have to pre-set stacks or even take them out of racks until I need them.

I don’t know what NAGB means but I wouldn’t classify the Classics or Noirs as “Fantasy” as they are a generic design (no made up name casino name). I actually loved Noirs when I first saw them. Had I known they would never be sold again I would have bought a large cash set of them. CPC should make a few generic designs like that. I think they would sell a lot of them

Pharaoh and the “James Bond” chips I would consider “fantasy”.

NAGB = not a group buy. Aurora Star, Empress Star, Pacific Star, Sunset Beach, RPC, etc.

Yes those would be Fantasy chips/designs IMO. Not my cup of tea.

I got excited years ago when I saw this thread but nothing of what I was looking for came of it

We need chips like this. This is the only type of non custom chip I’m interested it. And I think to the none chip collecting community, these would be more marketable

Honestly not sure if this is controversial or not:

There are not enough fractional chips available for home games. I want to see more 1 cent, 2 cent, 5 cent, and 10 cent chips available. You're lucky if a commercially available set will give you a 25 cent chip... usually they start at 50 cents. Yeah, yeah, I know you could use non-denominated tournament chips or something, but I want the actual denominations printed on the chip.

I also prefer these over other lines like "Pharaoh", "National Poker Series", ...

1K chip sets should not increase in value by $4,000 in a matter of 5 months
It shouldn't rain when I'm planning a picnic either, but alas these things do happen.

Market prices - which are what determines "value" - are a result of human action but not a result of human design. They're like the weather; no one decides whether it will rain tomorrow, and no one decides whether the market price of something will go up or down. A person only decides the price that they themselves are willing to buy or sell for; the market price is determined by what every different person is willing to buy or sell for.

Prices going up is just a fact of nature, reflecting more and more people wanting something that there's only so many of. Saying prices shouldn't rise is like saying the tide shouldn't come in.

I don't think it's controversial so much as a normal consequence of supply and demand.

Most people who are playing poker for real cash aren't playing at stakes that would require small fractionals like pennies and nickels. And people who are playing for fun probably lean toward using high denoms that they would never play for if it was real money.

Manufacturers of fantasy/off-the-shelf chip sets don't perceive a demand for small fracs, and thus don't make them.

I have a pretty stout grasp on market mechanics.

And I’ve been in some wild hobbies and seen them get sour.

I shouldn’t have to calculate EBITDA to get a theta position on a poker chip set  :ROFLMAO:

I say, I SAY, It’s chicken hawkin ya hear???

Not controversial except if you were trying to convince a company to make them. Not sure many would buy chips like that. You could just use the actual coins like we did as kids

Start with 20/20/15 (or 20/40/11) FOR EVERYONE!!! Cover that friggin table with as many chips as possible!!! until you get a rack or so of quarters on the table.

Then do all your rebuys in $5s and $20s/$25s.

This is why I own mostly custom ceramics and custom labeled chips. But you have to understand that real casinos have no need for these smaller denominated fractional chips, and that is what is most readily available here on PCF.

Glad this thread got back on topic. Funny how fired up we can get lol

I'm all about more chips to a certain point. If your players are decent at stacking their chips in a reasonable time yep go for bigger. I just get a little annoyed when someone is still stacking their chips several hands later when the pot wasn't even that large. Makes me want to go color up some chips for them  :ROFLMAO:

Hold my beer!!

Down to the penny!

Or how about like 8k in poker chips for a nickle dime $20 game (real casino chips)
20211225_112631.jpg

BCC and Paulson both made fantasy chips called FOCs that went down to a nickle!

They exist... just not as easy to find!
