Have we finally reached market saturation?? (4 Viewers)

I felt the market is still selling as long the item is priced right, I just sold some chips recently over the past few months and have an easy time selling.

Also, quite a number of the “bumping” listings that are not selling are make up of either overpriced item or flipping tread.

And what do people think about auction that set the starting bid at market price and 1 week long?

Those pics are crazy, but can you give us a better sense of what we are looking at? Do you know when each of those versions were made? Is it lead that makes them look yellow under the light?
So much I don’t know.
The ones that are more orangy under the blacklight are the heavier ones and according to Chipguide, they were made “1970s.”

The ones that are whitish under the black light are all like a gram and a half lighter. There’s no separate entry in chip guide for that particular version - I have no idea how anybody could date them. Presumably they have less lead or no lead.

But as somebody pointed out last night, how do we know if the blacklight is reacting differently to the lead, or if it’s reacting differently to some other component of the presumably different clay/weight/dye mixture? It’s a big shrug from me.

The schizophrenic nature of recent chipping extremes has taken some of the luster off of chipping for me.

On one end is the Tiger Palace NAGB that caused a frenzy of people selling previously "grail" sets as if they were bike tire RHCs. All for beautiful, but not a real casino, chips at astronomical prices. There was also a constant reminder side-dish of not being in on the group that organized the buy, accompanied by a very public sale. The secret NAGB's somehow felt better.

On the other end is all the cheap and crappy cards mold chips. People still poke fun at china clays, but cards mold? Just crap. Yet, they sell by the tens of thousands.

It seems that for the past several months, one of every two threads has been about the Tigers or Cards Mold chips. If it were up to me, I'd create a sub-forum for each and ban posting about them elsewhere. Does anyone really need to see another sale thread for a $100 set of plastic counterfeit junk?

The market may not be saturated, but I am.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I still like perusing the marketplace ads, but I'm fairly content now that a rack of minty Bally's $5's are in hand, completing my third set!

Someone better sell me some fucking Crystal Park hundos OR I WILL TEAR THIS PLACE DOWN STONE BY STONE AROUND YOUR HEADS. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOU, FOR I SHALNT.

PS currently on the toilet and wondering if I really need to wipe again because I think I pulled a muscle on that last reach. Maybe I’ll wait to tear things down.

PPS I just wanted to use “Shalnt”

I’ll supply the gasoline

I agree that it’s interesting and I’m not disputing the idea that people without a clear opinion might be biased toward their dominant hand. But the idea that people might not be able to taste the difference between coke and Pepsi and have an actual preference - I have a hard time with that.
I know the difference between my right hand and my left

I don’t think this is the best example of “insanity.” I’ve never seen these for less than $400 a rack in the last 2 years and $500/rack may be close to the upper limit these will ever reach.
The mint HSI pri & secondary fivers all went to 350-400-ish just after the sale...

And that value also is based on the fact that the hundo's & $500 (pri) are some of the best (non leaded) RHC chips out there

Get some facts straight....

There was no group behind the Tiger buy....
The stink of the (big) secret NAGB still not cleared 100%
Astronomical pricing ? You should have been here during covid (that's when the bubble that bursted was created)

Regarding the not real casino chips...after so many years, I couldn't care less.

Or do you think that chips coming from a dump like PCA, Jumers or Majestic Star add ANY value to a set ?
For (some) Vegas / AC casino's or casino with historic or personal value, but that is a small percentage.

None of my BCC sets are from a casino...still some are considered grail set by many (Grand Cardroom & Capital Room)

I agree 100% on the whole china chips...but I can understand it.

I’d like to see a rule that says you get 3 free bumps, then you either have to lower the price or let the thread die. These sale threads always feel like the seller is just trying to find a noob/sucker that doesn’t know any better.

And what do people think about auction that set the starting bid at market price and 1 week long?
Clearly a money grab, but for some reason these don’t bother me as much as the overpriced chips that get incessantly bumped with no change in price.

I do find it amusing when the overpriced starting bid auctions end with no bids, though.

What if the chips are listed at original Ken pricing?

It’s hard to make more rules on sales threads. Bumpin’ be necessary. More often not you are right and it’s annoying/overpriced…but sometimes the right buyer doesn’t log on every day/week/month.

I wish you could hide the classifieds. Is that a thing? That be real nice and probably help the forum.

You can't hide the classified but you can Ignore the person instead so you don't quite get to see their flipping thread or stupidly expensive price thread, indirectly leading to a cleaner forum

I do wish we are able to tag an icon on each member just like how can we tag them on say pokergo (fish, whale, luckbox, WTF icon etc)

There are a few members/vendors that post a ton of auctions. I block those guys. They usually aren't posting anything I'm interested in, and it gets rid of pages and pages of sales/auction threads that I don't want to read.

In this test there was no difference. They were drinking the same soda from both cups, but since they believed they were drinking two different sodas, they were able to identify which one the preferred, with heavy bias toward their dominant hand

Cheaters!
Freaking psychologists.
That's some Dread Pirate Westley Sh1t right there!

I recently saw what Michael Jordan rookie cards were selling for (north of $25K+) When just a few year ago you could grab them for $2-$4K (admittedly not an avid sports card collector so I could be wrong)

Here's the highlight, and somehow others were forgetting in this thread...

Mr. Money Mustache wrote one of the best articles I've read on inflation of late. Well worth a read and essential for this discussion are his comments on the boom mentality over the past few years:

"Until March 2020, when the entire world conducted an unprecedented experiment:
  1. We shut down many of our businesses, factories, and shipping ports.
  2. While simultaneously giving everybody free money and lowering interest rates in a (successful) bid to avoid a second Great Depression.
Item (1) is still having ripple effects: as different governments impose and lift lockdowns and quarantines, factories and shipping ports are still not up to full speed.
Then item (2) multiplied those effects because we were all stuck at home with extra money, meaning we spent less on restaurants and more on stuff from Amazon, appliances, new cars, and so on. "

Otherwise coined as “Irrational Exuberance” - lol.

I personally think we’re in a downward trending mkt. Yes, there is a core trading/selling high $$ chips amongst themselves, I’ve bought a few $$ racks recently myself.

But the frenzy days where you had people fighting over who could bid the most for a rack are gone IMHO.
