Birthday dinner, man I love this wine, especially for the price point.

Yep -- you just can't go wrong with Ridge. We had a bottle of the 2016 East Bench zin with hanger steak tonight -- superb.

And as we were eating, a shipment arrived from Ridge -- the 2017 Demostene Ranch and the 2019 Evangelho, two historical sources.

If you really enjoy Ridge's non-cabs, their Z-Club and ATP (Advanced Tasting Program, for very small production lots), are the way to go.

I like this one! Delivered today drinking with homemade smoked salmon. Perfect really together.

Latest Winebid drunk buys... have high hopes for the Rauzan-Segla. If the others are drinkable it’s a bonus. View attachment 793716
That Prieure-Lichine might be still *really* good! A century vintage, and Alexis Lichine was really pushing the quality envelope when he bought that estate and improved their winemaking into the 80s...

Please let us know!

Yes I am hoping so. I’ve had the ‘83 and ‘86 in the past year were really really good. Just hope they have been stored well, everything from the outside looks good.

Will likely open up around the holidays.

Where is it from?
Of course, "when it's good, there's no better one" according to a French Chef ("Quand c'est bon, il n' y a pas de meilleur")
Lovely quote, for sure.

It's from Lidl; not sure you have them in Greece?

Man, I meant if there were any info on the label about the geographical location of the vinyards:)
At any rate, the French quote holds firmly.

Since Ridge Geyserville has had a few mentions lately...

On my birthday a few days ago, we went to a local restaurant that doesn't publish its wine list. I didn't want to take a chance of not finding anything I wanted to drink, and I didn't want to take a very old bottle that might or might not still be great, so I took along this not too old, but still somewhat special bottle, which was rich and wonderful with duck spring rolls and other interesting fusion dishes:

Today I scored this bottle in a charity auction on Bidpal:

It should be interesting.

I also had in what appeared to be the first and only bid of $600 on this oldie:

"Chataeu Brane-Cantenac - Margaux - 1970
One 6-Liter
Fantastic nose with menthol, sweet perfume, library book, and pencil. Nice texture, with a touch of firmness to the tannins still. Reviews stated the nose was the most exciting and this was good, old Bordeaux, but the flavors have lost intensity.
"

But somehow it appears to have been sold to someone else at that price (???). It wouldn't have been really enjoyable, anyway...but it was for a good cause. Plus I've never had a six liter bottle before!

I have fallen in love with Barbera d'asti and Barbera d'alba reds. Rich, sweet and complex. Go with all fall/winter foods.
Our default, ordinary, day-to-day "grab a red" food wine is a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. A hair lighter, a little smoother than your Barberas.

All good, though...

I still don’t know if Larry knew we were kidding….

I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, so I certainly would never have accused you of having a sense of humor.

And we Social Security-dependent old farts could never afford 50-year-old Scotch. Now the Pepsi, I can swing...
