The cheap whiskey thread (3 Viewers)

When I poured it out, the color was light. It just looked thin. The smell was heavy ethanol and faint bourbon.

It was a neck pour, and I've learned not to trust those. (I just had my second Michter's Rye tonight. Did not care for the first. The second has been wonderful. I just don't get it?) It was ok. $18 for the bottle. I don't have much under $20 a bottle. This I like better than the Evan Williams Bottled in Bond.
I might have to try that....

I didnt go through all the pages here but did anyone mention Kilbeggans? Its my go to Irish, much better then Jamison and cost less.

I'm trying to figure out if Weller is looking for or not. Does ot do down any smoother than Crown?

Someone told me Hennessey was as good as crown and it sucked...

Looked for Weller last night. None at the price chopper. No confirmation it's better than Crown..

I wanted to compare dollar for dollar on a test but unable to find...

Seems like "cheap" started getting to the $100 mark..

I suppose “cheap” is relative. For me, it’s $35-40 and under. For others, that threshold may be higher.

I would expect to pay $100 for a big bottle of Weller’s, but since @JeepologyOffroad found it for $38, I’d say it qualifies. :)

Question for all you brown liquor afficianados... I drink almost exclusively whisky, scotch and bourbon. But every so often I hit a point of saturation where I need a change of pace for a while... so I can then go back to appreciating the *real* stuff.

What do you drink at that point?

Gin disagrees with me. Vodka, boring. Mixed drinks... usually too sweet. I have tried high-end rum with some success, but tire of it quickly.

Ideas?

Same here.

Maybe because I don't drink that much (maybe a dram 3 times a week), I haven't experienced that saturation. Also, because of the wide spectrum of Scotch Single Malts flavors, I feel I'm always drinking something different.

So switching between several differs styles of Single Malts, bourbons (straight and finished) and ryes does the trick for me.

Our friend Andy brought this one up to our cottage and I really like it. I don’t think it’s really expensive but he said he searched for a while to get it, so he must have wanted it! 117 proof and very good.

I’m a fan but that bottle is more around the $50 mark, Mike.

The Early Times BIB is $22 per liter bottle here in MI. Great deal imo.
