I used to play in a weekly STT where this was the swill of choice.

Anybody ever try this Clontarf?
It’s $29.99 for a 1.75 at Total Wines, and to me, it tastes a hell of a lot like Jameson (which goes for $45.99 for the same size.)

This came highly recommended by the guy at the Louisville Total Wine. Is it really good? No, but pleasantly drinkable at $10. Reminds me of Four Roses, maybe a tad more harsh. Maybe not. I’ll have to try the FR again.

Since there is no cheap brandy thread:

TIPOTA means NOTHING

In 1949 Nick G Biris of Tripolis produced a new drink called NOTHING or in Greek: TIPOTA. Since then his secret recipe has become famous all over the world as one can plainly see from this article from The DAILY OKLAHOMAN:

SAYING 'NOTHING THANKS' CAN BRING DRINK OF BRANDY

TRIPOLIS, GREECE, MARCH 23- Distiller Nicholas G Biris has marketed a brandy under the trade name 'TIPOTA' which means 'nothing' in Greek. Says Biris:
"From now on anyone who says 'nothing thanks' when I offer him a drink gets a shot of my brandy even if I have to pour it doen his throat.
"'You asked for it", I'll tell him. 'By golly so I did' he'll say. It's as simple as that."

The DAILY OKLAHOMAN. March 1957

So what does TIPOTA taste like? It tastes like the best brandy I have ever had. (not too difficult since I can't stand brandy). It tastes like almonds and vanilla and is kind of sweet. Well actually it is really sweet but it is really good too. TIPOTA is sold in Tripolis and probably around Athens if you ask in liquor stores but we found our bottle at a fast-food travel stop on the National Road on the way to Tripolis.

Drink it cold.

It’s not whiskey, but I’ll try it! :D

Picked this up on a recommendation by Total Wine. Guy in MD said it was their #2 selling bourbon and is kind of new. It's a 3yr old for about $22. Pretty decent, not great. I would buy again at that price point.

Kentucky- A smooth wheated bourbon, craft distilled and aged 3 years in the heart of Kentucky. Carefully selected yeasts invoke a complexity that makes the bourbon bolder- with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, ripe cherry stone fruit, brown sugar, maple, cocoa and a sweet, clean finish.

OMG! Just seeing this! I'm pretty sure I talked to the same guy when I was there is June!!! LOL. Still have most of the bottle on my shelf after my bartender son said it was crap...

it's not terribly nasty, but I wouldn't buy it again. Perfectly acceptable mixer to go with coke or something.

I'm making a list - but so far it's pretty bleak compared to the amount people are claiming to drink. The top 20 and the bottom 20 will be the same (albeit in reverse order) if I don't get more input!

This is a cool blind taste test video of 6 of the best cheap whiskeys out there.

Wild Turkey 101.

Hard to argue with that. I also love the Evan Williams BiB and Buffalo Trace.

I use Demerara simple syrup in my old fashioneds. I assume piloncillo is similar in taste.

Do you use just regular Alberta Premium? I'm not too particular about my whiskey, as long as it's not bad.

FYP. If you're going to splurge and add Alberta, might as well go all the way lol
