Classic poker chips is selling their company?? (3 Viewers)

When Angel Holdings quits the chip market there will be much gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands regret about not buying something like this.
The signs are there, just like these signs were here.

Well, David states the decision is "unrelated to CPC".
Reasons for the decision were unrelated to CPC.

If that's not clear admission that he knows Paulson is reentering the home market I don't know what is. :ROFLMAO:

Those are two completely different customer bases...40c-50c vs. $2.50-$3.50+ per chip.
They reduce the spending power of potential CPC consumers, I seem so many new chippers over buy (impulse buy) Tina set because of the price range

There are people who say they have tight budgets but bought 4-7 set of Tina which you could easily get a new Mint RHC or CPC set with that budget

I’d rather have THC > RHC > Tina Hybrid > CPC > card mold Tina.
I having tried out few CPC set came to the conclusion that I rather own lightly used THC or Mint RHC over CPC as well, thus I end up selling all my CPC stuff

As for Hybrid > CPC part I personally think that if pricing is a consideration , I will choose hybrid > CPC as well.

In fact, I am very excited about the upcoming Tangiers HM Tina. And this is me who been very selective when it came to Tina purchases ever since I went too overboard with them and sell most of the Tina after all.

They buy during TCR sales....the long term value
That’s been my strategy for Paulson Chip

Without looking at the numbers (and given the decision to sell), we can only assume the owners aren't swimming in profits (even if we wish they were). If it's true that the economics of manufacturing clay chips and selling them primarily to the consumer market are challenging, it seems to me the most valuable asset the company owns may be the intellectual property associated with the mold designs.

Maybe there is a path forward where manufacturing is outsourced to a Chinese partner like Tina, and the molds can live on and command some sort of premium that makes the business viable. Unfortunately, you'd need a lot of volume to make that worth it. And once Scrown and A-molds are manufactured in China, it may just be a matter of time before everyone else rips them off. I'm sure David/David have considered all of these options.

In any event, hopefully someone will buy the business in its entirety in a way that gives the Davids a good exit and the chips can live on.

My idea for the new owner:

Require all orders to obtain a @MrCatPants design approval prior to production. Yes, far fewer orders will be produced, but the value will be much higher. Prices will be tripled, and having a set will be considered a remarkable achievement, commensurate with owning a rare time piece.

Wish I had the capital to buy CPC as a labor of love project and just break even every year with the goal of manufacturing chips at just under $1 per chip.

From the guy who unironically created CPC chips as an homage to dice chips.

Hahahahaha

Scrowns are already being made in China and there are group buys on another forum...they call them "cap dash" instead of scrown.

The beauty of CPC has always been the ability to create something uniquely yours. I’m going to keep my personal customs personal.
Tiger Palace and it's 80+ unique chips and your vendor post on working on numerous people's customs just isn't enough of your work to share.

They can call them whatever they want. It is a blatant rip off and whoever organized with them to copy this should be continously spanked.

These last orders (1 year or so) will be extremely inflated (last time ever add ons and final set sales) no one should consider it for valuations.
This is the single most important thing anyone has said about the potential for a sale and someone else’s success. The way David announced this is going to suck a massive amount of what remaining value the company has. There’s already a minuscule customer base and a new owner will have no confidence in their ability and no demand for their product.

Doesn’t matter if someone does have ideas about what could be done next with company, where will the existing demand be to support operation while they attempt innovation?

This announcement is a good move from David to extract the last value CPC has. But not a good setup for long term success of the venture itself.

I've never been to the factory, but looking at the size of the building, it appears to be a fairly small operation/footprint.

I assume there is a ton of learned knowledge (undocumented) which is a pain to transfer to new owners, excellent with older equipment. I believe it was stated that new molds aren't really cost justified or feasible (forget). This would be another negative. Hope this has a happy ending for anyone involved.

If only I was a crypto believer back in the day. Really like the Portland ME area.

$5 dollars per review
an extra $5 dollars every time I get angry looking at your chips
I give you $5 if I don't get angry

Tina hybrid over CPC? Can you explain why that is your preference? To me, there is no comparison on materials/quality. But, maybe variety of colors/edge spots and shorter leadtime is what sways you?

Tinas are 1/4 the price minimum and take 2 months not 6-12

CPC don't feel great imo until they get alot of play.

Then if you want a 43mm chip Tina has even more of a leg up

I dont see CPC having a small market share...rather, they have the ENTIRE premium custom chip market for consumers.
If a small number customers go to Tina and that cripples CPC, that says to me the demand for CPCs was already declining.
I really don’t know the ends and outs of CPC, was CPC kind of a passion project for D&D vs their sole and primary focus (Both on-site, daily, all day)?

My thoughts regarding all these comments about the negatives of CPC (from a customer standpoint and not from a business one). To some, including me, custom CPCs are the top of the top…the pinnacle of chipping. Fully custom clay casino grade chips should take awhile to make…they should cost a lot of money…the whole process should be exhausting for everyone. They are special. Not everyone has them and shouldn’t. Cherish your one-of-one clay chip sets and stop looking for that instant gratification all the time.

hope you like your Tina customs, because they are yours forever. Resale is for shit. But you can always just order another set when your fancy turns, and donate your old one to goodwill.

CPC customs never resell so I’m not sure this is the flex you think it is lol.

Again I feel like I’m flexing too much hate.

CPC shaped textured inlays are gonna be missed…
