Have we finally reached market saturation?? (3 Viewers)

Think we will see TCR chips, IG or DJ at initial TCR prices?
I think just about everything except for the bear claw $5's has been selling at initial offering proce for a while now.

I doubt it. I needed more DJ $25 chips for my RHC set. Initially I paid $230 for a mint rack in April of this year. 2 months later I went back to the same seller and they stated they were now $265 a rack or $60 a barrel because they were becoming harder to find.

Secretly I think people are spreading false hate for RHCs just to try to bring prices down, and really it’s a much nicer chip than a lot of people give it credit for.

Though maybe that should go in the controversial chip opinions thread.
Please go see my comments on IG vs Jacks for market manipulation in that same thread.

A group as small as ours, opinion does matter. The one chipping hill I'll die on is that there is 0 objective things regarding design, scarcity, aesthetics, etc. that dictate the Jacks and IG should be where they are in pricing.

Also to go in the controversial opinion thread, wtf is this buyers market everyone keeps mentioning?

Sure, there's stuff for sale? It's mostly people cashing out on things. And sellers here are always going to be like sellers here, so there's still a crap ton sitting.

Someone sells Aces, boom next day a set gets listed add $25-50 on every rack, and the set is split and sitting. Plenty of sales going "back in the vault". And plenty of cash grabs that people let die out since they didn't get a buyer and we'll see their overpriced listing again in a year.

I think what's really funny are some of smaller situations and behaviors. Some chips are plentiful, and there were sold for 170 + shipping, then the next guy wants his cost covered so they're 180 + shipping, and so on and so on, and suddenly the rack of chips is selling for $250 because "that's only $10 more than a recent sale".

Yet somehow at the same time, some of the not seen very often and somewhat desirable old chip sets come out and.....crickets. Teddys BCC Mardi Gras come to mind. Lists extremely high, leaves it up for months, several price drops, pulls the listing, we'll see it again later. So goes the difficult life of having chips never publicly listed, so the only comparison is what they paid for them (and that being public), and now you can't sell.

I guess it's a buyers market if everyone says it's a buyers market? Even when looking to buy stuff, I'm not seeing a lot in classifieds that scratches my itch. Won't somebody please list more custom samples for me!? When's the next Tiger release, that always gets my juices going.

When chips are listed for fair prices the fly off the classifieds. The days of instant profit taking are over. The Chiproom is no longer there to be taken advantage of, Jim maximized his profit by doing auctions himself which is only fair. Flippers are getting what they deserve.

I don’t think it’s a buyers market as much as it’s not a sellers market and prices in general are lower than they have been for really anything versus one year ago.

In a seller’s market there are multiple buyers for something, driving prices up. In a buyers market someone puts up a wanted ad and multiple sellers compete to make the sale (usually with lower prices). Neither is happening.

The recent purge in the classifieds shows what you can accomplish with good pricing just trying move chips into the hands of others.

I love RHC’s personally, when the condition is right. Really rough RHC’s can be just that, pretty rough.

Preach!

Thank goodness Jim is no longer to be taken advantage of!!! Those were dark times - many an evening I thought of starting a go fund me to support Jim’s volunteer organization.

Hey, maybe if we raise funds for him he’ll start answering chippers questions like “how many racks of these will be up for auction” and the like.

According to your join date, you’ve been here practically forever. You’re not suggesting that RHC hate is anything new, are you?
I’ve definitely spread around my share of it, but I was just joining in on the well-established trend that’s been going on since before my time.

My opinion is that mint RHCs aren’t bad but worn ones are very bad. And I’d say most of the CPC molds are better than RHCs.

Pretty sure they’re there right now.

I haven't seen any IG at TCR sale prices, but they have dropped significantly. From what I've seen, $1 secondaries sell for $2-$2.50, TCR price was $1.59. I sold mine for $2.

The $5 primaries are all over the place. I sold mine for $2.25 and I recently saw an ad for $450 a rack that sold. Not sure it sold for that price. I'd be shocked if it sold for that.

$25 primaries TCR prices $1.29. Selling for around $160-$175. The hundo maybe $1 above the $1.99 TCR price. I don't follow much above that.

So you’re kinda both correct. They are selling for more right now, but if you account for inflation, it’s probably close.

Like most new members here I started with RHC. Once I played with leaded THC there was no going back. Once I played with leaded TRK, even more so. I think most people just haven’t had the chance to handle and experience leaded THC. Out of my 14 sets, 2 are Tina, 2 are RHC, 2 are TRK, 2 are IHC, 5 are THC, and 1 Vegas housemold.

The best chance for members to experience more than RHC (who don’t live next to @Godzilla28 ) is to attend a meetup.

It seems like people don't always take into account how big a difference there can be between RHC prices depending on desirability resulting in high asking prices that aren't warranted.

E.g. Jack Detroit $100 primary vs secondary, HSI $5 primary vs secondary, etc.

I see Jack, IG, HSI sets with secondary duds or oversized inlay GO chips, etc listed at their counterparts higher prices and people are surprised they take several price drops to sell.

In response to this:

I have many RHC sets and really like how the mint chips have broken in. I do agree that very worn RHC are the worst.

And CPC molds being better than RHC belongs in the controversial thread. Love that you can create your own custom chips but the feel and sound of RHC is far superior to CPC (those being most influenced by mold, but colours also +++ above CPC).

Imagine Oak Tree $100 and Grand Victoria $500 on THC mold. Ahhhh!

Grant makes sense. Grant should post more.

But wait wait wait, here's the other part!

People don't like super worn RHCs. Ok, well newsflash no one likes super worn THCs much either.

Neither of those are sought after conditions for purchase, and its a joke to think people have to worry how RHC will wear vs THC because........6 years later they'll be selling either one in unplayed mint condition  :ROFLMAO:

I’ve been a member for under a year. I found PCF when I was looking to buy new chips. I started with BR Pro Nevada Jacks, then two custom Tina sets.

After getting some Paulson shuffle stacks I decided I wanted a Paulson set. RHC was the most forgiving for my budget. I know they get flea bites easier than THC because of the top hat being so close to the edge. However, I don’t have a lot of extra cash for chips. They averaged around $2 a chip. All of my chips were mint except for two racks of Agua Caliente being Excellent/NM. They will be used only once a month so I’m hoping they will hold up well.

You're good mate. Those chips are going to remain in excellent condition for years being in rotation once a month.

I'll let folks with more experience than I chip in, but from what I've seen you can have those chips in play once a month for the rest of your life and not see a huge change in those chips.

Inasmuch as its opinion, yes it does. But I did say the molds, not the chips. Put it this way - if Paulson/gpi/angel/whoever was pressing their clay into CPC molds, how many of them would you choose over RHC? (I’m guessing more than a few.) obviously that does us very little good in the real world, but it illustrates to me just how bad that RHC mold is, and how annoyed I am at Paulson for switching to it.
They’re still great chips at least when they’re mint and near mint. But they could be (and should be) a lot better.

I apparently have to get to a meetup sometime! I have a just a very few scattered singles of THC mold, but have played with RHC a lot, so that is what I know and am familiar with. RHCs feel right at home for me, but I do also love CPC HHR mold chips (and don't really have experience with much else CPC).

This is very true, but I have thoughts to add.

I know that casino worn RHCs made from modern Paulson clay feel like plastic. I don’t know if that’s because of the mold or because of the clay. I suspect it’s a combination of both. But since I’ve never played with casino -worn leaded RHCs, I can’t be sure.

I have played with casino worn leaded THCs. As they approach bike tire condition, no, I don’t like them. But they don’t get that plasticky feel; I just don’t like the way tires handle.

But your overarching point (I think) that we shouldn’t worry about casino worn condition when we buy mint RHCs for our home game is fair. I doubt I’d ever put that much wear on the chips. Still, it colors my opinion of the mold. Which likely colors my perceptions of the chips.

I’d say most some of the CPC molds are better than RHCs.
^^ FYP.

But many of the CPC molds are real stinkers, too. Maybe a half-dozen are really nice playable designs.

Faced with only the choice of new hourglass or used RHCs, I'd forego clays altogether and pick 43mm ceramic hybrids.

Never gonna get me to buy into the plastic chip stuff, though. Pretty, but trying to actually play with 'em (without first sanding) drives me nuts.

Unless u playing with a batch of fitness trainers on hand wood surface, the new chips virtually don’t get chips. They might pick up some dirt here and there, and that it

I rotate my sets weekly / biweekly so each set basically go in play around 4-5x annually
