I actually like this discussion a lot, I feel like I can relate to a lot of the points being made.
I, too, always thought I was special. This is some devastating news to finally have someone burst that bubble.
I end up being conflicted a lot as a chipper with a small budget and poor impulse control. I see value in a lot of things being listed and always immediately consider things like, “These are cool, I can always get my money back if I don’t use them.”
With how the marketplace has been lately, I’m not sure that’s always the case anymore. It’s not a bad thing, it’s kept me from impulse buying (things I don’t need) in fear of losing money if I decide to let them go again. But now instead of just fear of missing out, it’s FOMO vs fear of losing (too much) money, and right now the latter has been winning every single one of those arguments.
@BarrieJ3 made the most relatable point for me above. For people who buy and sell and sit at their prices and bump the listings forever, the money may not be as important to them.
For myself personally, I don’t have room for all those sets trying up thousands and thousands of dollars, so I’m more likely to sell at a discounted price to make room for the next thing. The most disappointing part of that is hoping the items will go to people who actually want them, but it seems like the people who immediately reach out the most just want to throw them back up on
eBay or in the classifieds. I guess if you have the means to do that then more power to you, but it still sucks for those that don’t. That’s nothing new though, it’s how most markets work.
