Are we ever going to find out who got those $500's? Or are those two people going to have to keep them hidden away forever, like a stolen work of art?

The fact that they posted their intentions is entirely relevant because this was not a clear cut rules violation and Jim conceded as much. It was more of a "spirit of the limits" thing. It's a bit harsh to call folks greedy when they employed a strategy that has been used in past sales and openly discussed within this sale's thread without censure. Jim had the chance to make pre-sale rules adjustments if things were getting out of line as people discussed buying strategy.

The other issue that Jim alluded to is that the percentage limits didn't account for what people might look to buy. It turns out that these "greedy" individuals bought 160 $500 chips each. It's easy to call them greedy now that we know there were only 400 of them. What if there'd been 2000 or 4000? People still would have been shut out and someone who got "only" 160 would be lauded as a lucky bastard, not a greedy sneak. With only 400 chips available maybe they should have been sold by the barrel, limit one barrel per household in the first hour or something, I dunno.

This is not a knock on Jim or the buyers. Things just didn't work out with this sale due to the ridiculously low quantities. Oh well. For the record I have no dog in this fight. These chips didn't interest me so I didn't even attempt to buy.

If anyone is to "blame" it's those who blew this thread up calling out and trashing those who employed a strategy they likely did not realize was against the rules. The strategy was discussed before the sale and not one single person in this thread (or in any of Jims past sales) mentioned it being against the rules... had ANYONE said anything it likely would have become a point of discussion and ultimately, quite probably, would have been resolved before the sale.

Seeing how pissed people got after the sale I am genuinely interested in knowing why apparently no one had a problem with it beforehand.

For the record I got no $500s but it wasn't for lack of trying, and my attempts included the strategy being bashed because I assumed it was commonplace. If you'd like to throw pitchforks in my direction feel free.

I can imagine that Jim and others did not read every single post in this thread. If I had seen those posts I certainly would have spoken up.

EVERYBODY knew the intent behind Jim's limit and just because they did not get called out after openly suggesting ways to circumvent the limits doesn't make it ok.

How can you say they circumvented the limits if the total of their combined orders did not circumvent the limits? Even if Jim’s intensions were exercised by all the 500s could still have been bought up by as few as 2 individuals.

Personally I have no issues with how the sale was presented or how any of the orders were placed.

See, now I'm paranoid. I think everyone arguing that they didn't do wrong (not saying they did!) Got the 500s.... Anyone could have them... They could be here... Next to us.... Quietly enjoying there chippies.

We will never know.

Sorry, but it's already been well-established (both here in this thread and elsewhere) that your rant is inaccurate.

Submitting multiple orders and combining them afterwards has long been a SOP in TCR sales; in fact it was almost a neccessity in some cases where items were partially sold out at payment time. Going back and ordering more non-restricted chips was often required, so that the limit restrictions were ~not~ violated.

At no time -- until very recently, in this thread -- did Jim ever announce that all chips being ordered had to be contained in a single PayPal order. If he had, the actions of many orderers would have been much different

Everybody? In all caps no less? I didn't. Other upstanding members of the forum have said they didn't. The guy who openly posted that it was his strategy didn't, nor did the six replies it received which more or less said "good idea".

Do you think I'm a serial flipper? A bad person? A shady member of the forum?
 
Jim's sales used to be soooooo fun and exciting... Things started to go down during the HS Cleveland sale with loads of flippers showing up... For his latest offerings, things were bad already on the thread announcing his road trip... And they got worse in this very thread... All I can do is shake my head...

I'm not interested on the Native Lights myself, but was looking forward to the excitement of some of the people here purchasing sets and posting Pr0n... Instead, reading the posts here is just painfully annoying (to me)...

As always, thanks @TheChipRoom for making those available to the community... You are, and have always been, one of the cornerstones of this community, Jim. Thanks for everything man...

So, if someone got 160 of the $500s, how many of each of the other denominations did they need to order?

Just like political rantings on any forum this thread has gone in circles for half a dozen pages... people post their opinion, it gets discussed, then someone else posts their opinion, it gets discussed.. same opinions get posted again, gets discussed again...

In the end, it really wasn't explicitly stated anywhere that it's against the rules, and Jim has always in the past offered to combine shipping for multiple orders so that would make lots of people think that its totally OK to get those high denoms first then another order for the rest... I didn't do it, but I can't say that anyone was *WRONG* for doing it...

And like I said before, in the end, with Jim's limits, only a COUPLE people were going to get $500 chips, out of probably 30+ that tried... no matter what people are going to be disappointed, and in today's society, people go straight to find who to blame and who to get mad at...

However, I see what it has turned into as unavoidable. Things just got too big. People who miss out, get pissed and don't G.A.F. They whine, troll or whatever and screw everyone.
 
Anything public will have whining or trolling, and I don't feel ANYONE got 'screwed' here. That's what I'm not understanding about everyone saying this thread is full of complaining... really it's full of people complaining about people complaining, and the complainers complaining about complainers are complaining FAR more than the original complainers complained. lol
