Do you have a connection that can get us some Angel cards? They're very hard for the private consumer to acquire.

I saw a potential set up on eBay for $40 a few days ago but I waited too long and it was gone before I decided I would go for it.

It does not look like they ship to the United States. Did they ship to you from buying from there? I'd supply you a small finder's fee in addition to the actual cost and reshipping to me if you're able to aquire two set ups for me :)

Amazon didn't deliver directly to me , the cards are transported to China through private transport companies , not the Amazon .
Delivery is very expensive. If I send it to the United States again I think it costs too much.
Of course, I'd be happy to help you.

OK, so after my review of the above Cartamundi Casino cards that sneaky SOB @surfik tricked me into reviewing, I went on a mission to find more of 'em with a different color/back design printed on the same stock. Yea, I'm an insane OCD card junkie... hey, everybody needs a hobby right? Of course my wife is continuously reminding me that's "A hobby" ... singular.... eh, what does she know?

Anyway, unlike NASA, around this joint, failure is always an option.... hence, I bring you.....

CARTAMUNDI CASINO - USA

Umm.... yea,.... USA. As in "Made in USA".... as opposed to Belgium.

If you're getting the feeling that's a prelude to coming attractions.... you'd be right about that, & you might want to stay tuned.

But for now, back to the failure du jour...

So Spinetti's has a Cartamundi "Casino Quality" poker size, jumbo index, 100% plastic offering at 6 bucks per. OK, with shipping that's going to be pricy, but I managed to find something else as well (yea, even more future bloat for the DB to come) that scratched my card junkie OCD itch to defray the shipping cost. So, oh what the h*ll... why not?

Now, while there were no images of the card faces for comparison, if I'd been paying attention, I'd have noticed the little "Made in USA" fine print on the jokers... but, who pays attention these days?

So, no.... these are NOT anything like the Belgium-made casino cards above... in fact, they're another in the line of cheap Cartamundi offerings such as the "Classic" and "Ace" decks that you can find pretty much anywhere. Although, I will say that these are the best of the 3.... but just barely. & that's not really saying much.

Right out of the gate, these are PVC not Acetate. Also, as I stated, made in USA like the Classic & Ace versions. & while these didn't come with a box, I have little doubt they were produced in the same Dallas Texas facility as listed on the boxes of those.

In comparing Classics with Ace, Classics are thinner & thus more flexible. In fact, they're the thinnest (at a hair-thin 0.105") cards on the entire list. & by far the most flexible of any PVC card. They also use a standard brighter red. Ace on the other hand, are thicker, with a more medium-soft flex, & uses the darker "security" red ink.

They are similar in that they both have smooth faces & "glossy" or unfinished backs. Which tends to make 'em slippery as h*ll. As is typical of cheap plastics.

So what about these "Casino" or Casino Quality"?

Well.... if yer askin' me.... no, not hardly.

In fact, I'd call 'em a bit of an improved Ace. Or, an Ace that they actually finished. :D

About the only real difference between these & Ace, is in that they actually seem to have put a finish coating on the backs. The backs of these are actually not glossy. But, still smooth as the freshly Zamboni'd surface of Boston Garden before the Bruins' afternoon practice. It's almost as though they were trying to actually make something that would compete with Copag. Well, if that's the case, they failed. Marion Pro are still your best bet if you're looking for Copag-ish quality on a budget.

Very similar specs in all regards to Ace. Thickness & flex are both as close as makes no difference. Only real difference is these have a smooth finish face and back.

The smooth back still renders 'em on the slickery side of things. OK, sure, maybe not as scatter-prone as Ace or Classic, but still slicker than Copags. If you have a ham-fisted shuffler in your group that can scatter a Copag deck, they'll be doing even more renditions of Mount St. Helens with these. Just maybe a few less of them than they would with Ace.

As always, specs are now up in the database: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/resources/the-redneck-poker-card-database-2-0.76/

& stay tuned, when I get some more time I'll put up my thoughts on the mystery guest purchase I also got from Spinetti's. Also, as alluded to above, the search is not yet over. Just in something of a trans-Atlantic holding pattern. So, we haven't given up all hope yet.... Hey, when I was racing cars this was a poster on the lid of the pit-box...

I had these. Glossy with stretched out pips font. Did not liked them

CAIRO CASINO

cairo.jpg

A limited edition fictional casino run with an Egyptian theme designed by card trick magician Vivek Singhi at MagicEncarta.com. These are as good as any deck you'll ever lay your hands on.

Cairo Casino is a fictional poker-sized Casino themed deck inspired by an Egyptian Theme & Classic Casino Decks like the Wynn Deck with jumbo indices that reads well on a poker table.

Put on your poker faces and come to Cairo Casino, where no player is too small and no bet is too big.

Enjoy your stay and welcome to CAIRO CASINO.

Printed with Cartamundi on the highest quality Casino Grade plastic that feels like paper !!!

LIMITED EDITION OF 360 DECKS !!!

DSC00008.JPG

Made by Cartamundi. I'm assuming Cartamundi USA, which likely means USPCC.

The Specs: Weight: 2.47gr - Thickness: .0120" - Flex: 17 (Med.Soft) - Finish: Linen/Linen - Material: Cellulose-Acetate

Before you start wondering.... yes, they were designed by a magician, but no, these are not a trick "marked" deck. It's a standard deck of poker size jumbo index cards.

But, that statement really doesn't do these justice. Pick the best deck you've ever felt in your hands, & these will match, or beat 'em. No kidding.

Are they pricy? Yup, you bet. $14.35 each on Amazon. & worth every penny. There was obviously no expense spared on making these things & it shows.

That glorious linen finish front & back that makes dealing these an absolute pleasure. A single card slides effortlessly right off the top of the deck every time. Medium-soft flex for easy riffling even if you're the one doing it all night.

If I have one minor niggle.... just to be OCD picky... the color is a tad flat. The red isn't really as bright & vibrant as my camera made 'em look. But I think that was intentional & a very "flat finish" was apparently the goal anyway.

I have to ask, which would you rather have, Tobago or Cairo?

I have to ask, which would you rather have, Tobago or Cairo?

Oooooo.... what a question.... you've obviously been paying attention, & you don't play fair either..... I think I like you. :D

If I have to hand shuffle every hand all night, the Tobago.... 'cause I'm pushing 60 & they're softer than newborn kittens.

But, if I can use the shuffler, I'll take the Cairo's in a New York minute. They're right up there with the original Desjgns, Kems, & usual top of my heap suspects.

The only problem is, there's only one color for back design. Which would make using a shuffler not good practice as you'd want 2 different color decks.

Of course, there's nothing saying the 2 decks you use have to be the same back design or even brand.

How's that for a tap dance around the question? :D

I like your style. Indecisive, just like me.

Going to pick up a deck. Do you know if there have been any other similar offerings that I can get another deck to match up with this one to make a set?

Nothing I can think of. If you have a set of Modiano Platinums one of those decks would probably be your closest match feel-wise. Although, the look will definitely be different.

DaVinci or Piatnik might be acceptable as well.

When @surfik sent me a deck of casino branded cards made by Cartamundi Belgium I had to immediately go on a search for another deck with hopefully a different color/back design made on the same stock. I loved 'em so much, I wanted to be able to just buy 'em.... from somewhere, hopefully.

Did I succeed?.... well.... sort of....

CARTAMUNDI (Belgium) - "CASINO"

I'd take pictures, but I really don't need to bother. If you want to know what these look like, just go back to the review of the Tobago Casino deck & you'll see 'em. All you need to do is remove the casino branding on the backs & you have these cards.

Same look, same feel, & same finish.... everything about 'em is identical..... except one thing...

Thickness.

These average about a half a thousandth thicker than the Casino Branded. Thus, the flex is a tick stiffer & the weight is a tad higher as well. But, not so much as you'd actually notice unless you have a very developed ability for flex feel or actually had one of each to do an A/B comparison. I did initially believe they were just a touch stiffer than the Tobago Casino right out of the wrapper. Then, ended up confirming that. First by feel comparison, then later on the flex meter. Flex-wise they are more equivalent to Modiano Texas Poker, Kem, & old-stock Desjgn.

Also, I'm not going to chalk it up to manuf. tolerance either. The measurement difference between the two is markedly consistent enough to believe that it's a deliberate (albeit very slight) difference.

Also, like the Tobagos they come with no box, & just in a plain cello wrapper. So, they're obviously purchased in bulk, likely by the gross (144 decks/box) & then sold individually at the retail level.

The stats, if you must know.....

Weight = 2.46gr. / Thickness = .0120" / Flex = 19.5 / Material= Cellulose Acetate / Finish (Front/back) = Matte/Matte

Vs. Tobago's...
Weight = 2.24gr. / Thickness = .0115" / Flex = 25 / Material= Cellulose Acetate / Finish (Front/back) = Matte/Matte

In the final analysis, I'm only slightly disappointed. I really wished they'd have turned out to be as soft as the "Casino Branded". But, at least I do now know of something I can still get as we sit in 2020 that is as good as my other favorites, beyond Kem being the ONLY game left in town. & they do come in red as well as blue.

Currently however, the only place I know of to get 'em is PokerStore.nl in Holland. They're listed as "Cartamundi Plastic Casino Playing Cards" @ 8.99 Euro/deck.

BLUE: https://www.pokerstore.nl/poker-cards/carta-mundi/cartamundi-plastic-casino-playing-cards-blue.html
RED:

I ordered a deck of Cairos through based on this, and they arrived today, but i didn't get a chance to crack them open. I'll give them a shuffle tomorrow.
Any other input on how awesome these are?
Do they always play games with pricing? I got my deck for $14.35. Today I see they're $15.95.
Do they have a non-amazon distribution channel?

Only other one I know of is directly from Magic Encarta: http://www.magicencarta.com/playing-cards/cairo-casino-playing-cards.html

As for the pricing, I guess it could be the limited run supply is getting short. I notice that Amazon is saying only 10 left in stock.
Right. But when I ordered them the other day, they said only 3 left in stock. So that’s crap.
I gave them some shuffles today. Great cards. The first thing I noticed were the corners were a bit sharper than what we’re used to. They’re not pointy sharp like a baseball card. But a bit less rounded than typical cards.
I really like the finish and it’s a bit unique to me. The texture somehow gives the cards an almost rubbery feel. These may be the least slippery plastic cards I’ve handled. And as a result there’s practically no top card float, which is a huge plus for me. They’re not quite as flexy as I’d like, but I prefer the thinnest for I eat cards available. These feel flecked than most.
Very very nice cards. But their price tag is a bit high.

This topic is basically being used for commentary only at this point.

The actual "database" (v2.0) is now a resource: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/resources/the-redneck-poker-card-database-2-0.76/

With it in the resource section I can edit it indefinitely. Problem I ran into with this topic is that you can only edit posts for a fixed amount of time. So the list on the OP is now dead. Additions are not possible. But I kind of still use this topic for reviews when I add something to the 2.0 database.
