PCF Member Taking Advantage Of Community Generosity (7 Viewers)

I don’t like telling people how to handle their finances or judging their decisions. It’s easier to withhold judgement when it’s not my money they are spending. For that reason I tend to avoid giving or loaning money to people. Other than fellow degens at the poker table of course.

There are real people in need. Charity should not be stopped because of one bad person or scammer.

With that being said, receiving chips in a transaction, not shipping out your part of the deal, holding the chips you received “hostage” until the money you sent was returned leaving the seller without chips or cash and no guarantee the chips he sent would even be returned, and making fun of the situation, should tell you to stay far far away from any transactions from the person.

Also, somehow his feedback is back to 100%. His negative feedback no longer registers.

I believe in karma and everything happening for a reason. The auction led me to @Run 'Em the winner of the Paris chips who suggested that instead of shipping the chips, I hand deliver them (45 minute drive) and play in his NLHE game. I went that Friday and have been going every 2 to 3 weeks ever since. So yeah, I do look at it that way too.

Now wait just one minute! Can feedback on this site be manipulated? That's a serious allegation!

Can anyone here confirm that they left negative feedback that was removed? @Hotus777 ?

Was the last time before the forum upgrade this month? I know there was a brief period right after where it wasn't enabled, I wonder if something happened during the upgrade/data migration?

Nothing wrong with trying to help someone. But never repeat a proven error in judgement.

This isn’t generally a community. Hasn’t been for a long, long time. It’s a marketplace with some afficinados/hobbyists.

I’d never give anyone money here unless I’d met them at a meetup, hung out with them, got to know them, and trusted them.

Giving someone money here that you haven’t met yet is no different than just shipping money to a random person on reddit.

What I’ve taken from this thread is that there are a lot of judgmental members here who are willing to quit helping their fellow man because someone somewhere took non life changing money from them and hurt their - pride maybe?
I gave some money away. It didn’t have strings attached and I didn’t require a resume.

It’s a pretty big stretch to say I’m “fine”, but what I’m not is butthurt or whiny about a minor thing in life.

Karmas a bitch. And you judgmental people are on the wrong side of it. You don’t know anything about any of these circumstances except a few posts on the internet.

Don’t judge me because I tried to help someone. Maybe it didn’t work out, who really cares.
If you’re ok with people lying to you take advantage of your generosity, can you give me $3500 because my wife took my kid to Russia and I need to pay to travel to get the kid back and I can’t afford it? I would be forever in your debt, kind sir, and you would be helping out of this terrible hand that life has dealt me.

Oh, wait, that’s how Ten funded Chiptalk. My bad.

Lol, forgot about this gem.

Technically if you are in deep financial trouble and you get enough donations you’ll no longer be in financial trouble and then you actually can afford leisure and entertainment stuff.

Starting to think this guy is a genius. I mean, kill all the flippers (TM) but still….

On a serious note, I actually do desperately need to raise some money for a horrifically bad personal situation that I find myself in, and I have a once-quasi-successful hobbyist website that I’d like to sell. I’ll give you a good price for it, only caveat is that I’d still like to retain control and administration rights for it. Please contact with serious offers.

….no, wait. Fuck, that’s Ten and Chiptalk again. Sorry, continue as you were…

So I played with this guy @Goldfish one time, he looked down on his luck, maybe he'd had some rough times, I dont know. I dont judge.

We let him win a couple big hands, ok he seems to be cheering up, this made us feel good, maybe even a smile breaks through that tortured face of a 5% VPIP PLO player...

And then what does he do? he gets up and cashes out.

Fool me once I say....

thanks for the psa @chippitydoodah . I remember doing one deal for just a few racks and it was a headache dealing with this guy. Good reminder to stay away in the future.

as for the personal side of the post. whenever someone does me wrong or I feel like i've been taken advantage of it will always sting a bit. But I try to spin it around to feel a bit better. I try and feel grateful that whatever they had taken from me, like time or money or mental space, was mine to give and I had enough to spare. whatever they had taken will never fill the void of their lacking existence. nothing taken will make that person whole or at peace. and luckily you have enough to spare. Your anger will turn to empathy, and empathy for what they lack will turn into being grateful for what you have.

Seriously, that's really a very nice and honorable way to look at it.

The guy's still a pathetic dickwad.

Thank you Derrick

Maybe I've misunderstood the purpose of your post, but you seem to have a problem with this thread where we are calling out a fraud in order to warn others. So they can make an informed decision whether or not they choose do business with him. It's a community service. Unlike a couple others here, I happen to think that PCF is still a community, and every community has both good and bad apples. I think it is our responsibility to warn other members when we discover one who seems willing to take advantage of the generosity of others.

Because of threads like this one, and the previous one, we all have access to information that we might not not otherwise have. Each member can still make up their own mind, but with additionals facts, it's a more informed decision.
I'd still like to see a subforum for this topic since feedback obviously fails at indicating questionable members to do business with.

Though this doesn’t solve this exact situation, I wonder if feedback should add some specifics:

Overall positive/negative
Paid within 48 hours: yes/no
Shipped within 5 days: yes/no
Product described accurately: yes/no
Packaged reasonably: yes/no

@chippitydoodah despite what some ironically judgmental people say, I think this PSA is absolutely helpful.
